Last week in one of my emails to my friend Greg who sent me his mom's Model E Electrolux I asked him what kind of floor polisher she had, noting that I didn't remember ever seeing one in their house. Today, he wrote to me:

I just got off the phone with my mom.  I asked her what brand of floor polisher (the buffer, as we called it) she used and she said she thought it was Hoover.  After hanging up I Googled the Hoover floor polisher and came up with a picture that looked just like the one we had.  It was the Hoover Electric Floor Scrubber, Buffer, Polisher - Model number 5130. I remember it being quite a bit louder than the Electrolux. My mom doesn't know if she still has it down in the basement or if the one she has is a newer model. She hasn't used it in over 25 years.  I'll look at it when I'm over at her house for Mothers' Day.

That's a really cool-looking polisher. I would have thought it to be later than the late 1950s or early 1960s, but that would have to be the period it was sold. I am surprised I have no recollection of it at all -- I made it my business to know what kind of cleaning equipment everyone had! Maybe it's just that my obsession on their Model E so totally eclipsed everything else in their house!

Does anyone have one of these? Just wondering if it's a good performer.

I'm pretty sure I saw that model in Fred's lineup.  It's probably an average performer, but that curvaceous shape is bordering on voluptuous!
