Last week, while I was out going to estate sales, I stopped in at this junk store. I just discovered the place the prior week. The place has lots of electronic stuff, computers and some other general miscellaneous stuff. The first time I went I saw a Dyson canister hooked up right around where the entrance was. I wasn't sure if it was for sale or was what they used to vacuum the store. I then noticed about 20 or so vacuums in another room. I didn't see anything I wanted but the place looked like it might be worth checking out again. So I went the following week and found the elusive Bicentennial Convertible (U4085). It was really dusty when I saw it. One of the workers plugged it in for me and it blew a big cloud of dust from the bag. The owner got kind of mad that we were doing this in the entryway of the store. He said take it outside and try it there. I of course bought it and when I got it home I realized why there was so much dust coming out of the bag. The bellows was not connected to the bag or the vacuum so dirt was just blowing up in the outer bag. The machine is in pretty good shape overall but does have some deep scratches on top of the hood. The base is amazingly in great shape. One thing that is wrong is the top of the bag where there spring attaches is broken. It's plastic on this machine. Is there any way to fix that? Can that plastic part be obtained or do I have to rob it from another bag? By the way, this is the second Bicentennial I have found. The other one is in another collector's collection now.

Very nice find!  Call me odd, but I always think it's kind of fun to watch vintage dust clouds billow from an old vacuum!
