I love old Hoover slogans, my favorite will always be 'it beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans'. Also, liked the days when I worked for Hoover and we had 'Hoover Days'. What's yours?

I like the "Hoover, nobody does it like you!" Especially when sung like in this commercial/song.

Let's not forget...

When the giant Hoover Convertible was brought out for events! Those were the days indeed! I sure wish Hoover had continued in the family and not leave the country. That's why I collect, and why those old vacuums are so beloved.

Yes it is. Didn't that convertible start out life as a giant model 28? Subtle cues are still evident, like the lack of a handle bail.

I believe it did... I think there was a whole fleet of them.

Wow

Is this still in existence? Was it in the "Vault"?

Here's the other one we had to play with at the convention...

I believe they belong to one of our club members now.

The 28 isn't in existence; they were turned into the blue 'Convertibles' at some point.

Post# 133775 , Reply# 26   4/23/2011 at 10:55 (4,750 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

THose are just absurd! LOL

I bet that 28 giant hood is sitting in some vacuum shop unnoticed. :P

You can tell its the same base by the bumper. Same one. :)
The base is very 28 looking too, rather than the convertibles style.

That must have created quite a stir!

I can just imagine the jaw-dropping reactions of random people as that arrived.  "Honey, you will NEVER believe what I saw today!"  That must have kicked off the convention with a bang.

Thanks for the info. It's too bad all the giant 28's were converted into Convertibles. I guess by that point Hoover didn't want to be bothered constructing an entirely new giant machine. For purely historical purposes, it would be nice if at least one of the machines were converted back to a giant 28. If another bakelite hood could be fabricated, it might not be too difficult.
