As a younger collector I'm trying to learn more about rebuilding motors. I can do most repairs but some things I still can't do very well. I rebuild a number of electrolux canisters(metal 1975-1994) to sell on ebay as it is not bad money for a high school student having some fun on the weekends.
So I'll start with the first part of my question: Super J - Early Silverado sleeve bearing. What do you use to lubricate a new bearing? Common sense tells me you can't just have metal on metal without some issues developing. My experimentation has shown that a few drops of 3-in-1 oil is not good enough in the long term either.
Second part of my question: Diamond J sleeve bearings. You can't replace it (I think), so what do you do to fix it? The motor I have right now has a rumble coming from that area that needs to be resolved.
I know that there are a large number of very smart people on here and both of these motors are quite common so I know that someone here must know what to do with them.

good questions here. i too have never been 100 percent sure how to properly treat dry bronze bearings, esp when they say "dont lubricate". grease? heavy oil?

Use some Molybdenum Disulfide grease...maybe even some Teflon. I recommend Moly as I have used it and I know it works very well. It isn't too expensive. I used it to lubricate the sleeve bearings of my Hoover 105 Special. I bet if you can't find it at your local hardware store, you will definitely find it online. Good luck!

 the way the lux man showed me is to pop off the back cap with a flat head screwdriver and a hamer. with the armiture remooved cleane the bearing good with wd40 with Q tips, then oil the bearing with 10w40 moter oil and soak the felt with oil too.

Thanks for all the info.
One other issue I have found on Super J motors is the replacement bearing itself wants to rotate. The original bearing fit into the motor very tighly. The rotation does not seem to cause too much trouble right now, but I though it could become a problem eventualy.
Now about that Diamond J motor I mentioned. It seem like it is going to be the harder of the two. I really don't like the bearing built in to the end bracket. It is like one of the cheaper model lamb motors. At least with lamb you can get replacement parts. The bearings seem to always be the first thing to go and the other parts tend to be in good good shape except for that one problem. I have thrown out a few Diamond J motors but I think it is a waste of an otherwise good set of parts. Any ideas about this one?

lux sleeve bearing rotateing

 I to had some trouble with the bearings not fitting right. they hade trouble with the bearings made a year or to ago. the new ones seem to fit fine.

The bearings that I have were purchased less than 3 months ago. I got them from Hesco's online store. I suppose they could have been made a while ago and they are still selling them.
So, is there any way to make the ones I have work or is there any place where I could get good bearings that would fit properly?
It looks like I'm going to need a new supplier anyway as Hescos seems to have issues keeping all of the items I need in stock.
Atleast I know that I'm not the only one who has these problems.
