I gave the 65 a slight "dusting off" to get a better idea of what I have on my hands.

Somethings I noticed, were....

A quite interesting handle bail design. I notice these have a handle spring system in them, but later convertibles dont seem to? Its quite elaborate.

The bumper on this particular one is quite nice. Little worn spots, but in general, very colorful, and intact.

I had no idea the first convertible had the automatic shift. I thought that was a later deign. Very cool!

The fan has 2 fins completely missing. No wonder it sounded bad for the second I ran it!

The brush roll is frozen into the housing. Will need some nut buster to remove it.

The motor spins quite freely. Can use bearing work, but should sound decent as is.

______

I have leads from someone for a new base and handle, that are in much better condition. The hood on my machine works, although not the prettiest. So I think I may soon have a quite complete 65!

Oh yea....

MY MOM LOVES IT! hehe.

I didn't really clean the motor off. I took it apart partially, but couldn't figure out how to remove the top cooling fan. :P

More of the cool handle bail.

Wonder why hoover didn't keep this design. It seems to work flawlessly.

Now the base itself.

Poor poor hoover.

PS the hood fits a bit more snuggly against the base. The hood is NOT screwed down in this picture, so it looks like its popped off on the sides.
