LOL - guess I should explain further. I want to know if there is anyplace worth looking for parts and if anyone wants me to bring any parts for their old machines with me.

I'm spinning in place trying to get this trip all organized and seem to just be doing stuff like this in fragmanets

Hi Dan:

Ok - would never have looked there as I dont use any of the other forums. Wish he would have let me know. (If you read this Fred please just delete it as I cant - its useless to me there) Thanks.

Anyway - the purpose of this, if I can ever get my thoughts organized enough, is to see if anyone there needs any parts for the old Canadian machines or perhaps would like to trade for one of them. I still have several 80 series extra including a nice 86 with bumpers that I could bring with me.

Hello Doug,

As for places, there is a Kirby Service Center in Burien, Washington. They have a back room full of Kirby's and other cool vacuums. I haven't been there in a long time ever since it went under "new management". The guy I dealt with was nice but I have no experience with the new one, but it's worth a try if you want to go there. There's a place called Super Vac & Sew in Kent, the guys there are really nice, I bought my Miele's from them. They have a small selection of older vacuums for sale. Lastly there is House of Vacuums in Auburn. The owner is a nice lady and she has a lot of old vacuum stuff.

I would be interested in a Canadian Electrolux! I'm not too good with Canadian Lux models, are any of them those pretty red ones? Let me know if I have anything you want to trade for, off the top of my mind I know I have an old Lewyt Bigwheel, robins egg blue Eureka upright, orange/brown Hoover Celebrity, and a Compact Electra (don't remember the model but it's one of the earlier gray ones from the 40's with no wheels, it has the attachments, wands, cloth hose which holds air fairly well).

Hi Alex:

The 86 is the red and white model. I also have several green 89's but have to work on them yet. I'm just heading out at the moment but I'll take a picture of the 86 later this evening and post it. Lewyt immediately caught my attention - what model is it? I have the 77,88,90,97, 105, 111 and 120 but am still looking for the rest or parts for them. Also looking for some of the older US eluxes like the R and white, tan and gold L's (and a few others I cant think of off the top of my head). Talk to you soon
Doug

Doug,

The Lewyt is a model 88. It has one ding on the lid that you should be able to pop back out carefully. The cord and plug is original, but the end is taped up with electrical tape. If you cut off about and inch and a half of the cord and replace the plug it would be fine. The hose is a vinyl replacement with original ends, it has the tool holder on the back and I think one tool is original and the others are from a different vacuum. Last time I tried it ran. The seal around the bag compartment is dried and cracked.

If you're still interested I'll get some pictures and post them here.

Alex

Hi Alex:

sure - I'd like to see it. As you can see the 86 isnt perfect either. The body has a number of small dings in it (the most noticable one being where the body shape changes to the left of the handle in the picture. The parts have some scrapes but are all complete and the handle on the hose has been replaced with a lime one instead of the original cream. It runs well but it probably wouldnt hurt to replace the bearing as there is a bit of noise as it slows down. The hose also leaks a bit as suction at the machine is 60 but at the hose end is 45. I may have a newer replacement hose though if you dont want it original. I would have to look.

Doug,

It looks nice to me! I've been looking for an Electrolux for a long time now, never had much luck finding one. I've always liked the red/white Canadian Electroluxes, I remember seeing one of these on eBay in the US, it was one of those things that I loved but never bid on it.

I will get you some pictures of the Lewyt tomorrow afternoon and post them here.

Alex

Hi Everyone-

Ok, I'll delete the other one in off-topic. I normally would have sent you an email explaining my move of your thread, but I was on my way out the door to work... I'm going to let this thread stay here, because it's now got a vintage vacuum within it.

But in the future, if anyone chooses from the list within the "Create new thread" screen that your topic is about "Vacuum Cleaners Made Before 1980" .. and it doesn't have anything to do with vacuums, I'm gonna move it to off-topic. I would say that it's safe to say most people on this board read the off-topic forum... there are usually a few vacuum related threads going over there at any given time...

If you ever can't find a thread you recently started and have any question whether or not it fits within the category you selected, I most likely moved it. We have different forums for a reason. I would appreciate everyone's compliance in following the guidelines.

Any questions, let me know.

Fred

Hey Fred:

I was interupted 4 times trying to do the posting too or it would have had the vacuum on it to start with. As you can see my thought process was not exactly totally together at the start and every time I tried to fix it I was again interupted. If you had checked first I would have explained it. If I could have Edited the posts here it would have had one post not three to begin with too but I ended up posting every time I was interrupted then realizing I hadnt finished explaining. The title, had I been able to correct it was surposed to be Anyone in the Seattle Area want to trade? and I screwed that up both times. So yes I am not having a very good day.

Check out the post I'm making tonight about the Vac Shop in the Georgetown District of Seattle.

I live about 25 miles no. of Seattle, and I'm in town during that time. I'll send you my phone number offline if you want to call.

This is the second possibility. I just finished putting a new bearing into it. Its not perfect but its in pretty nice shape. I'd like to get one of the US Electroluxes for it.

That 89 is really nice looking too!

I don't have any Electroluxes, but if you're interested I have a Miele S5 Canister I could trade you for it also.

Here is a picture of the Lewyt.

Hey Alex - The Lewyt looks good to me.

Hey Karl - that sounds good too.

I'll get back to both of you tomorrow. Need to get my hotels booked etc so I know what I'm doing and I'm too wiped to concentrate on it tonight.

Doug

If the both of you want, we can all meet at Karl's shop in Kirkland and have our vacuum talk and trading there.

I can ask my parents if they'll take me, they can find something to do in Kirkland while we have a mini-meet.

Just give me a heads up on when you're coming and we could meet for lunch or something. My shop is not very big because it is basically my house's garage converted to a 3 car mechanic's shop but we can meet there if you want. Just give me a call or email. Preferably a phone call because my email is always getting left to accumulate and I never check it.
Call me at (425)516-3691
