Dyson DC05 has just stopped working 		[Down to Last]

Hi all,

In addition to my Dyson DC24 which I love. I have a Dyson DC05 which my step father uses to vacuum out cars with. I purchased this DC05 is New Years 2004.

In 2007, the motor burnt out, making a horrible pooping sound and an electrical smell, so I purchased a motor and it in myself and since then it was working fine. This machine didnt really get that much use as I had a DC04 machine at the time.

Last year my step father took it to use in car cleaning which was done around one every 2 weeks to once a week, so still very little use, this machine has again stopped working. This time it was reported that there was no burning smell or anything, Ive tried the fuse but it stillo doesnt work.

What my question is, is what could the problem be with this machine?

Break in the cable perhaps? I picked up an Electrolux vitesse a few years back that was seemingly dead, but where the cable entered the vac, there was a break, so I cut it out, rewired the thing, and it worked again... :)

It's worth a look... :)

(Then again, it could be "Dysonitis", dying with no reason)

I would check for a break in the wiring inside the body of the vacuum-so many vacuum companies now are forcing the leads into such tight radius that wires break.Seen that several times now-A Bosch,and a Hoover bagless at the vac shop here for repairs.

Hi Guys,

Ive fixed the problem now. It was a break in the cable at the plug end so I cut the plug off and put a new plug on and its fine now.

For anyone watching... I've just spent the last hour stripping down my DC05 as it stopped working for no apparent reason. I pulled out the switch and even dismantled the switch and cleaned up the contacts. Reassembled it... nothing.

Then I looked on this forum and spotted someone mentioned the moulded plug was the problem, wasn't convinced but figured what the hell... lopped off the plug and stuck a new one on and hey-presto, works perfectly.

Definite advice for anyone with a DC05 that died for no apparent reason, try putting a new plug on it first... it could save you several hours of fiddling and head-scratching!

That's great, I'm pleased your machine now works again. The DC05 is no longer used by my parents as they bought a Sebo K1 Eco 700 watt machine which has better performance.

But prior to them changing the machine they were experiencing issues with the plug becoming lose every other month and the handle at the top has a crack in it so they retired that machine, but it still works.

Known issue with the DC05. The easy way to check is to plug it in, switch on and wiggle the wire near the plug. A spurt of life tells you its the plug.
