Supposedly, the ACTUAL HOOVER D.A.M. used on the show is up for auction. It looks like it went through the war. I think the price is $600.00. WEll, it was used hard, not sure there are papers, etc. I know the man who has/had the HOOVER Lavender (Agnes Moorehead) convertible as well as the 68 from "Who's Minding the Store?". I'm told they are back in N Canton at the moment. (more details at another time). Who would buy that DAM? A shame it ended up like this, IF it really is THE one.

TV and film props never really get looked after, a lot of the time they have multiple props of the same item, incase one breaks, falls apart or doesn't do what it's supposed to, then in most cases, when they're done with them, they end up in in a storage facility, or if in the case of vacuum cleaners, they probably use them or just sell them on... :\

Unless it's something truly iconic and only seen in a specific show (say, a Phaser from Star Trek), then they don't really treat such things as a rarity, only fans will see a certain appliance, or a book or picture used onscreen as a rare item... :)

I doubt the vacuum cleaner (or "Primitive suction device") as used in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise saw much interest, I haven't a clue what it is, but they had one in there, though I forgot what episode it was... :)

Wasn't the Dial-a-Matic in one of the early episodes from the first season? If so, I DID see Samantha vacuuming with it! Can't remember the color though, my memory isn't that good.

BTW, I'm just getting into the Bewitched series... :)

DAM

Yes, there was a DAM used in early shows, and if I am not mistaken there is a picture of Eliz. Montgomery using the DAM on the home page by "Vacuum Of the Day". I have a memory of Mary TM using one on the Dick Van Dyke show too

Well, here's the link!

There are several other interesting items, small though, claimed to have been on the "Bewitched" set, and many intriguing Elizabeth Montgomery pics, when you dig throught the eBay listings.

Vac doesn't look as bad as described originally, but it has paint damage along the top front edge.

im gonna say....

that's not the actual one.....because....i have the first season of bewitched on DVD in color....and the DAM used on there was the same model with a pice of silver tape over the Hoover name....but where it says Dial.A.Matic.....on the bottom of the front panel....that was taken completely off and was just plain pink.....look at the Discuss o vac avatar.....youll see what i mean....and...that particular machine still says Dial.A.Maitc...if that was removed then i wouldn't be there...when the questions were asked on the ebay listing....the seller has NOT said yes or no to the question...they keep beating around the bush....that's what i think...

I'm gonna agree with that. It should have the aluminum strip covering the Hoover name. Also, Screen Gems tended to use props on more than one show. Unless I'm wrong, the Bewitched DAM was also used on "I Dream of Jeannie" as the same cleaner the Blue Djinn (Michael Ansara) threw into the ocean. It would've been useless after that. Also, I wonder what ever happened to the coffee can Hoover seen in at least one episode of "I Dream of Jeannie?"

i dream

saw the show where major nelson tricks jeannie into going in a vac hose, he puts a rag in the end to keep her in and out of his hair, he tells the housekeeper vac is broken and she discovers its clogged with a rag. was a blue roll easy, and yes jeannie gets out with hilarious consequences

I'm PRETY SURE the story was that

Because Agnes Moorehead was friends with the HOOVER family, they made the lavander model for her. Also, that show showed the U.S. the "brand new Dial-A-Matic cleaner. It was the orange one. I have 2 of them. Just found the 2nd when I opened my father's closet for the first time in years... a renovation/restoration project. Imagine my surprise to find 4 HOOVERS in there!Lots of t.v. shows had HOOVERS, Kirbys, etc in the props department. Merchants were DYING to have their brand seen in "Who's Minding the Store?" They were free ads.I personally saw the prop tag for Agnes's Convertible. This ebay DAM... not so sure.

The seller claims in the listing that the Hoover went to Dorothy Staudenraus, a "well respected dress designer" who worked on the Bewitched TV show. I googled that name but nothing came up that would connect the name to Hollywood. If she was as noted a costume designer as the seller claims, there would be at least SOME tidbit about her on-line somewhere.

There are so many episodes..........I was trying to find this hilarious scene the other day but couldn't.

It was a very short scene where Sam and Endora were standing at the top of the stairs.....I think Sam had just walked out of their bedroom.........She and her mother were talking........And Samantha said to Endora, "Mother, did anyone ever tell you you had a wonderful sense of humor?" Endora said, "yes, quite frequently." Samantha wiped the smile off her face and said, "THEY WERE WRONG" and then snapped her fingers and popped out.

Does anyone know which episode that was?

Anyone who ever met Elizabeth Montgomery has to be one of the luckiest people in the world. Probably one of the most real people you'd ever want to know.
