Hi,

Is it true that in regards to the Royal deluxe attachment set #305 for their metal uprights, that you could get them in any color (as long as you specify attachments with your order) and that they are made in the same trim color as the vacuum?

For example, if you have a Royal 880 upright, the attachment set, when specified, will have blue attachments and hose. Likewise, for other models prior to 1987 (the year the mauve-and-burgundy model 889 upright had come out), the attachments will be gray in color.

Also, could replacement attachments that are part of the #305 kit be specified in any color you wish?

~Ben

It USED To Be That Way!

And of course, the operative phrase here is "USED to be." As you said, 880 attachments were blue, which was also used with some of the other uprights as well. Electro-Hygiene 880, 890, and 903 uprights all got bright red, and some Royal and Electro-Hygiene models got gray. Eventually (I think the early 90's) gray was the ONLY color you could get.
And by the way, not all upright attachment kits had the 305 model designation. The 305 designation only applied to sets that had straight, locking wands and a curved hose end. The earlier sets with the gracefully curved wands and straight hose end was 302 or 303, and the "el cheapo" plastic set was called 304.

I am definitely not going toward the #304 kit.

My 6103 Preferred Collection upright has a February 1993 date of manufacturing, so that would mean by that point, only the gray colored version of the #305 attachments was available.

Also, Jeff... I would think that the #368 extra equipment kit was discontinued around the same year Electro-Hygiene had disbanded (1983), probably because not everyone who owned a Royal really wanted to disconnect the power cord socket at the motor to remove the long handle for the portable one.

On the Kirby, the same cord was used when removing the long handle for the portable handle; you just remove the cord from the clip connecting the cord and bag - Royals do not have such cord/bag clips, which was why in the #368 set a power cord for the portable handle was supplied.

There were a few colors.

I can only remember seeing the Deluxe Attachements in Lite Blue, Dark Blue, Red, Maroon and Grey. There may have been other colors, but these are the only colors I have seen.

I would love to have

an extra equipment package for my 880. I had a red Electro Hygiene model with the removable nozzle and deluxe attachments and extra equipment kit. I liked the portable handle and small shake out bag for cleaning stairs, furniture, and mattresses. I wish I still had that machine.

Extra Accessories Kit

Ben, you're probably right about the kit being discontinued about the time Electro-Hygiene went out of business. I'm not sure if the kit was even offered with Royal. If it were, it would have probably only been available with certain models, as some Royals were direct wired instead of having a pigtail.
And the cord in the kit was included because Royal and Electro-Hygiene had the switch in the handle with the cord running through the handle, not because of lack of hooks like the Kirby had.
And Justin, you are right about the colors. About the only thing I could add to your list is that I think there was both a light and dark gray offered at different times.

I think the kit was available

for both Royal and Electro-Hygiene. I had the Electro-Hygiene model (don't remember the model number) that had the removable nozzle like a Kirby, with the deluxe attachment set and the extra equipment set. They were all in red. Stupid me gave them to a family that needed a good vacuum, and they beat it to hell. I guess i should have done a background check first? :-)

Electro-Hygiene's version of the Royal 888 was the 980.

And what is your Royal vacuum model, Hans, that you have the 305 tools for?

I could probably think the #368 kit would've still been available until the last of the pigtailed models were dropped (around 1990).

I know the 880's mid-1987 replacement, the 886, along with the 887 and possibly the 889 (and maybe even the dark blue colored 992 and 993) had the pigtailed cord.

my Royal!

I have a 801 which is my favorite upright, and a 259 two speed with a brass covered brushroll, the 801 is to me the best Royal ever, I also have a 880 in the box, it isnt brand new but has not been used much, but I dont like it nearly as well as the 801.
