Hi Garrett,
The corporate name "The Eureka Company" was used by Sweden's Electrolux only after they bought Eureka in 1974. When they bought Eureka in 1974, they were not allowed to use the name Electrolux on any vacs sold in North America because the name belonged to Consolidated Foods - owners of the American Electrolux vac factories and stores. Any nameplate with the name "Eureka Williams" refers to the Bloomington, Illinois American company as it existed from 1945 (when it moved from Detroit to Bloomington and merged with the Williams Oil-a-matic company) to 1974. Sweden's Electrolux bought back the rights to using the "Electrolux" brand name in 2007, at which time "The Eureka Company" became "Electrolux Home Care Products, Inc." From 2007 onward, the word "Eureka" just represents one of the many brand names owned by Sweden's Electrolux. So, in summary, here's the timeline for the sign on that famous vacuum factory in Bloomington, Illinois: June 1945 to 1974: Eureka Williams 1974 to 2007: The Eureka Company 2007 to the present: Electrolux Home Care Products Inc. Hope this helps! Eurekaprince Brian :-) |
