My friend had this little canister vacuum and, like so many of the Japanese canisters of the 1970's/80's, it worked really well - quiet and powerful for everything except carpets.

For some reason, when Sears contracted Sanyo to make a Kenmore version, Sanyo slapped the slogan "Let's Clean" onto the attachment box!!!! Really fun collector's item!

Only problem with the Let's Clean: bagless dust cassette is not the easiest to keep clean - like a lot of the older Sanyo vacs.

Best feature: the unit stores on top of it's own tool box, minimizing valuable closet space used! The hose and three little wands and the carpet nozzle fit in there too!

Check it out.....

I had one...

years ago. I remember that the filter cassette would clog very fast. It was indeed quiet.

This one is missing the telescoptic wand (the only wand) that was included, so buyer beware. Otherwise a neat design!

I was thinking that looked familiar the other day when I saw it. When I was a kid anytime we went into any store, even if they looked like that might not carry vacuums, I went in search anyway, I found one like this in a woolworths in the 80's. Only difference I can see is it said sanyo and had dark brown attachments. No store however was as cool as sears when it came to vacuums. One of my favorites though that I have never found was a kenmore from late 80's. In the midst of all the light gray new swivel hosed models was one of the older style square ones with the 5033 bag. I loved it since my favorite vacuum was my grandmothers 1975 sears best. This one was black and gray with red bumpers, gray whirlpool attachments, geared powermate, and a tool cover. I think it was 3.9 hp but I'm not positive. I havent seen one since that day in the store and that was about 1987-88. I would really like to find one since they were the last square ones. It would have to have a good hose though since all sears sell is white. Has anyone ordered one of the old hoses lately by the way? They are still on the website. The 6/7 foot one is part # 2405 with a picture and the 9/10 foot one is part # 2407 with no picture. I got the part # from my owners manual from a model that had a 10 foot hose. I called and they said the part was in stock. I was only wondered if anyone had bought them because I would be pissed if I ordered one and it was dark gray or something. Also some of them used to be beige so there is that question too. I actually need a 7foot beige and a 10 foot white, but its not that important as long as they arent gray, lol. The prices are still good 34.99 and 39.99, even the generic pigtail looking ones online are about that much. Sorry for how I get off the subject when I start a new thread. I just usually have to say something as soon as it pops into my head before I forget.

At one time, I had the Sanyo Model 289H which I think is the model you are referring to that the Kenmore was derived from. Very nice filter in the debris cassette but also very pricey. It was a very quiet machine; I only used it for hard floors and cleanup after "projects."
