I had some time to kill before working my first flight yesterday, and surfed the break room tv channels and low and behold, Ozzie and Harriet was on! I haven't seen this in years, and it was a show I grew up with. Anyway, there was a scene of Harriet vacuuming with a Hoover convertible! It had a handle grip and what must have been a contrasting white handle. I'm guessing maybe a model 69? I don't know how long that show ran, but Ricky was older.

The show ran from 1952 to 1966, so it should have a lot of vacuum and appliance eye candy in it! They have a table lamp episode, which I'm glad I have. If they would just come up with an uncut video release of the whole series. They cut out Rick's singing numbers.

If I'm not mistaken - David Nelson just passed away a couple of days ago.....

Sad.

spotted this in an episode of ARE YOU BEING SERVED for those of you not in the UK it was a comedy show set in a department store back in the 1970s The Hoover Senior 652a in grey and white. In the program a cleaning woman is using the machine but the sound is completely wrong and the bag is not inflated the sound used reminds me of an Electrolux cylinder machine or perhaps a Goblin

Mrs. Morgenstern's Hoover

I love the episode of "Rhoda" wherein the Morgenstern family is trying to have a discussion with Rhoda's mother, who, true to her character, has reservations on the subject at hand. So, every time someone would start to make a point, she would switch on her Hoover (model 60? 91?) and start vacuuming. When the talker gave up, she would switch it off, wait for the agitator and the motor to come to a complete stop, and say something herself. Then, before someone else could get in a word edgewise, she just turned the Hoover back on! :)

I saw "The Jack Benny Program" the other night on ME-TV. Jack comes into his house and Rochester is cleaning the living room. He's using a Hoover upright with the hose attached, going around vacuuming with the dusting brush. There was never a clear shot of the base of the vacuum cleaner so I don't know what model it was. The hose was a light-colored Duraflex hose.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing that episode many years ago, and if I remember correctly, Rochester sucks up the parakeet (or maybe it was a canary?) in the vacuum.

This episode of Steptoe & Son shows an old Junior being abused by Harold at the very start. Doesn't look very effective with the front cover missing!

Ozzie and Harriet Appliances

You are correct that Harriet had top of the line Hotpoint major appliances during the run of the show, she did commercials that are saved on youtube raving about her clothes washer & dryer, and dishwasher. She had a GE triple whip mixer from the early days until about 1960 when a Sunbeam mod 12 Mixmaster took its place. They were the only married couple on television that did not have twin beds in their master bedroom. They got around the rules by never showing them both in bed together. A fully dressed Harriet brought Ozzie a cup of coffee while he was still in his PJs in bed.

Ozzie Nelson was a bandleader, and Harriet Hilliard was his lead singer. They married and went on to form the TV show. Aside from being a bandleader, Ozzie also did a series of jingles, and songs advertising several products, including Hoover vacuum cleaners. Somewhere in my files are some of these songs featuring the Hoover Constellation, and the Citation. In some cases both Ozzie and Harriet sing together, in others it's just Harriet.

These were records that my friend Billy Lipman transferred to cassette tapes and shared with the V.C.C.C. in 93. They were fantastic!

I was just watching "Everyone Loves Raymond." There was a scene where he came into "Ma's" house to ask her to take piano lessons. She was vacuuming with a Hoover Model 62 that appeared to have the original bag.

"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", Jan. 1955 episode titled "Individuality" (around 5:40).

It appears to be a G-E Model C2 (1954):
