We popped in the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie" last night, and while we were watching it, there was a scene involving a GE Roll-Easy! I think the plot was that Jeannie wanted to go along with Captain Nelson on a cruise, and she wouldn't come out of the umbrella stand (where she was hiding, naturally).. he said "fine.. stay there". He went to grab his coat and noticed the vacuum cleaner... so he dragged it out and bribed Jeannie to come out to talk about things and subsequently sucked her into the vacuum cleaner. Then he stuffed a handkerchief in the end of the hose. When his cleaning lady came over -- he told her not to use the vacuum -- it was broken. She decided to try it anyways, and realized that someone sucked up a handkerchief ... how pleased would Captain Nelson be if she fixed it. So she took the rag out of the hose and Jeannie got out and blinked herself to the cruise.

It was mildly amusing. The first season was B&W, but Robert has a colorized version (actually, he has both versions). If you notice, the middle section, and the hose on the Roll Easy are still in greyscale.

Whoops! Lets her out!

(Yes, that's the same actress as Mrs. Kravitz in the later episodes of Bewithced)

Ive never really been a fan of roll easys. The only old canisters i really like are hoover constellations and old electroluxes.

Fred,
I remember watching that episode when it aired. I was not totally bitten by the vac bug yet so I did not know what model it was other than it was a great scene and a great way for Tony to trap Jeannie!

It was perfect that Sandra Gould played the part of the cleaning lady. Who could have done it better?

Thanks for posting that. It brings back memories of a wonderful time in television. And, we get to see the fabulous GE RollEasy. (Hope Tania sees it!)

and Dr. Bellows with the badly colorized Roll-Easy, and various other screen vacuum sightings. I have to figure out screen capture, Fred's pictures are much better.

Not sure if the post about the Dial-a-Matic was in reference to Jeannie or not, but other than this episode with the Roll Easy, she had a Dial-a-Matic for the remainder of the show. It must have been the same one used on Bewitched since the shows were filmed on the same set.

At one point, though, they must have had to replace the DAM because I recall it being thrown in the ocean with the Blue Dgin sucked tight inside of it.

Yes, I remember that episode, and here it is. For some odd reason, that DAM 1118 had an aluminum strip covering the Hoover name. Perhaps Hoover never gave permission to use the cleaner for Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie? Also, I recall in at least one episode, they also had a coffee can Hoover. It went around the house cleaning by itself.

Just a small footnote: If memory serves correct, Michael Ansara, who played the Blue Gin, was also in real life married to Barbara Eden.

Their son, who I have seen interviewed on TV, got the best of both sets of genes!
