Hey guys,
I hate to be the devil's advocate, but,I am a nursing student, and not to long ago I completed a medical Microbiology class. Microbiology is the study of bacteria, for those of you who aren't familiar with it. These vacuums have got to be a gimmick. Unless the lights they use to kill bacteria is something new and improved from the future;in order for ultra-violet light to kill bacteria, it has to be high intensity and bathe the microorganism for a long time. In essence, the microorganism/bacteria has to cook to death. It's just not possible to kill harmful bacteria with the few swipes of light passing over it in the time it takes to vacuum. One would have to leave the vacuum's light over the spot of carpet for at least an hour to have any real effect. I really don't know how these companies get around false advertising laws? Obviously, some of the bacteria will have been sucked up and swept up into the machine, but to claim that the light eliminates the bacteria in the time it takes to vacuum a strip of carpet is just not sound, credible science. I'm sorry, I feel bad that I have to burst anyone's bubble.

Agreed. I think it would kill off dust mites if vacuumed slowly but in order to kill most microorganisms the light WOULD have to stay in an area for atleast 30 min. I think thats how it works in water anyway?
I dont know how they get away with giving consumers misleading info. Id like to ask the manufacturer how they would feel if I peed on a plate and said its the latest in sanitzing, would they eat off it? Probly not but they let consumers kids play on the UV sanitzed floors that just got a 5 min vacuum by mom/dad.
sorry had to vent lol.

Wow, and it's self-propelled too! How did they make a self-propelled light weight? That's surely a lie!

Just sent the following E-mail:

Hello. I just saw a vacuum cleaner on your site called the PurATron Lightweight Self-propelled upright vaccum with UV-C germ killing light. I was wondering, since the vacuum cleaner is self-propelled, does the transmission have its own belt, or is it gear driven?

Thanks!

For all the faith and hope the innocent uninformed buyers invest in this deception they'll soon be referring to it as the Putrid-tron.

There's a sucker born every minute - thank goodness there are also a few Vacuum aficionados hatched, too.

I knoiw NOTHING about Microbiology, but ...

... I DO know a "flash in the pan" when I see one! And sadly, that is exactly what I think of these UV-Vacs. IMHO, the latest "feel-good" fad to be foisted off on a germophobic society.

Surely in the short amount of time that it takes to vacuum those lights can't do much good. And, if you were to run one of those cleaners in one spot for as long as would be necessary to do a decent job of killing germs you'd either have a bald spot in your carpet, a dead vacuum cleaner, or both!

Frankly, I can think of better ways to waste my money...
