I spent much of yesterday at the beautiful new Miele Gallery in Cavendish Square, London, for a preview of their latest cleaners, the Hybrid S4812, and the Eco Line S4212.

Based on the S4, the Hybrid introduces a new patented technology which allows the user to switch seamlessly between mains and lithium-ion battery power, allowing cord-free reach. Battery power output is a max of 600w, and lasts up to 20 mins. Great for doing the car, stairs, etc...

Also based on the S4, the 1300w Eco Line uses a redesigned floorhead to achieve the same pick-up as the 2200w models in the range, using 900w less power.

Under the embedded video player is a link to my blog, where I've done a full write-up of the event. I'll post more pics and another video of the gallery on the blog later in the week!

Hey Jack

You guys are so lucky! We aren't getting the Hybrid in the US anytime soon, unfortunately. Hopefully as the technology becomes more advanced we will see it in the lineup.

Hi, Andy! Haven't seen you around for a while, I hope you're ok?

My impressions of the Hybrid - based on my limited experience at the Gallery yesterday - were very good. Obviously, with a Miele, 600w is plenty of power to work with, and I love the idea of being able to use it to clean the car! I did baulk slightly at the price tag; at £499, I can't actually think of any other vac which costs that much in the UK, unless you take the next price-bracket leap up to Kirby!

Here are my pics of the Gallery itself - it's really a beautiful environment to show off all the great appliances!

Looks like it was a wonderful day. I did have a chuckle watching the bloke in your video as it appeared he did not have much experience vacuuming - if I had been there I would have been biting my tongue trying not to tell him about the Electrolux "classic" position LOLOLOL.

The Hybrid has a STEEP price, and I wonder who would pay that much for just one cleaner - for that short of money you could get a mid market Miele 2200 machine and TWO Dyson hand helds which would appear to me to be the better option - funny for me to be pushing Dyson given that I am a Miele fan, but figures is figures :) I think the concept might be better served on something like their stick vac, on a "grab and go" basis - but for that money you should be able to afford enough sockets, or at least an extension cord LOLOL

The Eco line looks interesting too but again I cannot wonder how long it is before they crank up the wattage which, with their design innovations, you would think would make one hell of a cleaner. Unfortunatly some have seen this before with the spin speeds of washing machines - the size of the number means more than the fundimental efficiency of the machine - I wonder how long it will be be until we see the 3000W machine (Morphy Richards perhaps?) on sale

Redesigned floorhead

Hello Jack,

How does this head differ from the standard type ?

Regards, Walter.

Hi Walter - unfortunately, I didn't take any pics or video of the head itself, so I can't illustrate the point, but it's sealed internally in a way former floorheads weren't, so there's no possibility for air-leaks.
