This is the famous telescopic electric wand with the pushbutton latch that engaged with shallow slots cut in the wand and hose handle - telescopic length settings were locked with the same positive engagement latch that allowed no slippage or rotation, that was introduced by Electrolux Canada for the green 87/89 from 1967-73. It was an huge improvement over the previous red non-electric telescopic brought out for the red 86/88 from 1963-67, which used an external circular friction ring that often let the wands and pn slip off unintended, similar to the well known LuxUSA type of friction ring. According to Doug Smith the first red telescopic wand was introduced in USA but did not go over well in the marketplace, just as later our microswitch trigger hose handle was judged unacceptable. :-) Up here we love these devices. I do not know if the 88 had the new latching telescopic in red - only Doug Smith can answer this one. Certainly the green telescopic is rare enough. Now I have seen pictures of no less than 4 latch electric telescopics in Turquoise for the USA market so this is a new avenue of inquiry... Dave |

In 1959 the LuxUSA Model AF introduced the Power Nozzle 1 as a new accessory, plugging into a two-pin socket in the side of the F's chrome top trim. The housing and one piece plastic wand were molded in gray to match the AF and did not have an inner steel support wand. It would seem that Electrolux USA ressurected the Canadian telescopic around 1968 for the 1205, tho the majority I have seen are the non-telescopic plastic sheathed one in Turquoise. |

Your pic in post #66271 is the same vacuum I found in our house when I got home from school. I was about 9 years old. The vac salesman had been there in the afternoon and I guess he left it for my mom & dad to think over whether they would buy it. In the end my dad said there was no way he was paying $275 for a vacuum, which included the power nozzle so the salesman came and took it away. Gary |

Hey Dave: Yes they did make the plastic telescopic wand in red. The last of the 86 / 88 machine run used the cordless version of it for the powernozzle. When the model 87 /89 came out with the new corded telescopic wand they continued to produce the red and cream PN 1's with the now corded wand to be used to retrofit older 80 series machines. If you couldnt sell the home owner a new machine the salesman was surposed to at least sell them on upgrading their old machine with a power nozzle. You also had the option of adding the trigger handgrip which connected to the hose cord (only in the pale green though) with these powernozzles. Unfortunately, it seems the only hose cord in use was the green one at this point. Doug |

Dave, that's one nice looking storage chest. I seem to remember (from younger days) a few of the Lux variety among members of my family...I'm going to have to pay them a visit. |

What year was it made? My next door neighbour Mrs French had one in the early 70's. I never see pictures of it in the POD, was that a Canandian colour combo? I don't remember hers having a powerhead or the wire running up the hose, maybe she just never used it. She had more hard surfaces and low pile carpet.Mrs French was a 4 foot nothing woman, as tall as she was wide. I can still see her tramping up the stairs with that Lux in her hand. She was a cleaning machine. |
