Some time ago, there was a thread about finding new hoses for the Canadian Electrolux 80 series models. Is it feasible/possible to use or somehow adapt an Electrolux upright hose, either electric or non-electric, from the Discovery/Genesis/Epic line? I assume the hose is the same diameter as the canister hose, and the pistol grip handle seems the same (I admit I've never actually used an Electrolux upright hose, so I may be wrong).

If you get one of the early upright hoses (the machine end is chrome and plastic - not moulded rubber) that end can be taken off and an 88 electric hose end put on - they were the same fitting and connection.

If you need more information on how to do it drop me an email.

YES YOU CAN!!

Yes, you can use an Electrolux upright hose on the Z86,88,89 versions. I have adapted one and it works fine. The one that I adapted is the one that has the plastic hose machine end, not the metal end. What I did was remove the metal/silver collar on the old machine end, this gave me access to the old hose. I gently slit the old hose, and pulled it off the end. You will now have the machine end with a three inch or so male end. Now, this end is a little narrower than the machine end on a powered lux upright hose. (depending on which upright hose you have, the one I used, I had to slide the rubber end off, exposing a hard plastic sleeve, the newer ones appear to be one solid plastic piece, in which case you might have to cut a couple of inches off the end) I took some electrical tape and made three or four?? wrappings around the machine end, took the upright hose and slid it over the taped end. So far it has been holding up and has not pulled off. I guess only time will tell. I just insert the pigtail into the power socket and away you go! I did have to trim the pigtail a bit for it to fit into the power socket, I don't think the pigtail male pin ends are the same diameter as the vac's electrical socket, as I have to tip the pigtail ever so slightly to make contact.

On the older metal ends, on one hose, we removed the old hose, cut a 1.25 inch extension pie, inserted it into the metal end,( had to do some glueing) and then shoved a 1.25 inch generic fitall hose onto it and plugged a pigtail in.

Hope this helps
Vernon

Doug,
The one that I adapted had the rubber end on and so far things are working out quite well for me. Might not be the best set up, but so far so good.

Hey Vernon - it works but its easier with the other one and you use the original pigtail which fits the 89 much better.

Thanks for the info, Doug and Vernon. Doug...will email you shortly about the hose and a couple of other things. By older upright, do you mean the 1970's model?

Vernon, the suction must be fantastic with a completely sealed hose. I've been wanting for a long time to feel the real cleaning power of the 80 series machines.
