I was on craigslist like usual, and I found a (rare?) Golden Hoover model 65 for $5. I emailed Jeff (Hoover1060) and he said I should get it. I did and I like it, I might restore it and put it on eBay.

This is the only picture that I have right now, it's from the listing.

Golden Hoover Model 65

I would give my right eye for one of those! Much nicer than the Hoover cleaners for the Centennial. Definitely worth the $5.00. I believe Chad's even has the original gold vinyl bag.

Well,

No It actually doesn't. You do see it how it came to me many years ago from a small vac shop that is now closed, near where I used to live.

The bag that you see on Fred Stachnick's (sp). machine IS however the correct one that was supplied new with the cleaner.

The bags's original color was a mother of pearl, or off white, with gold lettering spelling HOOVER, and CONVERTIBLE.

The gentleman who has it prior spraypainted the original pink model 65 bag he put on it with gold spray paint, and stencilled in new lettering.

However, when i had it at the convention, no one said that it looked bad, but alas..I do not have the factory correct item.

Almost Original Model 65

And this is mine. The bag is a gold painted pink model 65 bag. I've checked it out. And yes it is...

I would also....

I would also like to add that for what you've paid for it, you've basically stole it. There were not many around in 1958, and I'm sure there are less now. Besides Fred S., Jeff P., myself and Alex including the one at the Hoover Historical Center, that makes a grand total of five that I know of.

Do your best to keep it original as possible, and keep it. you'll never see another one.

Jeff is right, you should get it. Putting it on e-bay is totally up to you, but you'll kick yourself 20 years down the road when you no longer have one, and wished you did.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing with it...

Chad

Well...

My Golden Hoover is pretty beat up, it has a dime sized hole in the hood, which is badly warped along with some deep scratches. The gold paint on the base is pretty scratched up, and the gold paint on the handle is worn down.

Should I replace the hood and paint the base and handle?

My bag matches quite nicely, it's cream colored with a golden ornate design. But the person who replaced it put it on "off center" so when it's inflated, it looks crooked.

Actually....

Chad, I wouldn't feel so bad. I have to say out of all the model 65's, I like yours best with the gold spraypainted bag. It's one of the few instances where I like something custom better than the original. It looks as if it came that way.

Chad I agree with Ohio Tuec

Thanks guys....

I appreciate your comments. I did have to find a new gold headlight trim piece tho when I got it.The one that was on it was missing, and later a very beat up and long dead Hoover Model 67 supplied the piece in literally NOS form.

It's painful to admit what happened to the rest of that 67. Oh how stupid we can be when we're young, and foolish. At least me that its...LOL

I do think that the bag is "pretty", but I'm kinda an ol' school stickler for NOS. And for what it's worth, your both right It does look ok.

And considering the alternative, finding that ULTRA rare bag again, which probably would never happen in a million.

Hope that your restoration goes well....

Chad
