Had to pop in to Sears and naturally went over to gaze at vacuums. Imagine my surprise at seeing this! Immediately open the bag compartment to find one of those cloth-like hepa bags. Nice. beautiful color. Kinda liked it. But as you see...the price!

These must have just arrived. back of the aisle I found these. They have the silly bagless version, too.

Turning a corner I saw these Kenmore Bagged Progressive uprights. Nice price for a demonstrator.

But back to the Hoover Centennial...

Tonight the weekly flyers arrived. MMMM, off to Sears first thing in the morning, methinks...

What are they selling for in the U.S.A. this week?

And to round things up...anyone really want a pink Dyson? Sure to be sooo collectible once they flood the world market with them. Great cause - sad excuse for a vacuum.

I do believe that in the US the Centennial Windtunnel at Sears was about $189.I did not see anything but Kenmores in our sales ad for this week.
I just picked up one of those bagged Kenmore Progressive uprights a week before the conention. they sell for $149 new here and mine was a return still in the box for a whole $71. It is a very nice vac for that price, just a lilttle on the heavy side.

and Rats, the Sears Anniversery isn't the self-propelled model. :-(

At our Sears store on the mall they have the Anniversary windtunnel, the self-Propelled anniversary Windtunnel, and the Anniversary Convertible.

Hoover Centennial bagged upright on sale at Sears

Dave,
Why are they so much more? I got mine at Target for $139.00. You may not want the power drive model. I have not have very good luck with the Windtunnel Self-propelled. Don't you think the blue color is sharp? In reality the Hoover is just very cheap loud plastic but it looks cool! I was comparing it to my $39.00 Bissell upright and I can't tell much difference except the Bissell is quieter and lighter feel to use.
In real use there is quite a difference between the Hoover and the Electrolux. I really like the quiet sound of my Electrolux Oxygen. The Electrolux is very user friendly. It is a pleasure to use. The Hoover Aniversary is a ear splitter. I have been wanting to see the Hoover Anniversary tank-type but not stores around me have any at this time. Looks like you have a nice selection at your Sears store. Our Sears in my area do not have that much selection or display. I always enjoy your posts! Thanks for the pictures.

I've regained my common senses...

...after an incapacitating flush of Newhooveritus.

Thanks Rob for helping make up my mind. The Hoover Anniversary is a ear splitter...that's the final nail on the coffin. Had I run it in the store I woulda known that.:-) I have considerable respect for quiet soothing vacuums and remember when the tangerine Oxygene series first appeared at Sears years ago.

Yes, the Hoover color is real eye-catching and sets off the red logo so nicely.

Did a bit of spinning around the web last night and yer right - Canadians are being gouged an extra $40, even on a 'Sale' price. And so all these vacuums will remain at Sears for someone else to snap up...and put out by the curb on Free Trash Day in Woodstock next April. :-)

This pale metallic mauve Sears Kenmore (Eureka Contour) bagged or bagless cup model I got free from the trash is extraordinarily quiet. Came with the cup - which the previous owner had sucked up lit cigarettes that melted a hole through the cup - which I set aside in favour of the paper bag. It gets a lot of use around here (Stop laughing, Pete) and the static dusting wand is a delight.

I have a DC21. It's actually a really good machine. Give it a chance.

You could grab one at the Sears in Port Huron. Canadian Tire often sells the regular WindTunnel, not a Centennial or anything for $99. It looks pretty much the same. You might find it elsewhere as well cheaper.. Sears tends to always cost more than elsewhere I find.

Really, all I wanted was a nice vacuum in the pretty box and

aeoliandave's profile picture
or ugly store stock labels marring the box yet.

And of course I have the FrankenHoover project underway based on the broken double brushroll V2 Windtunnel I got from you, Pete. Mwaaa-ha-ha!!!

If I may quote from an email received just now:

"I like the Hoover Anniversary Windtunnel. The color is beautiful BUT it's too loud. The dirtfinder has already stopped working. I got the Hoover Convertible Anniversay. If you check it out you will see that it comes with two bins. One for bagless use and the other for the hepa bag. The problem is that the tube the hepa bag fits on will not hold the bag on the tube. I have talked to Hoover, the Hoover service shop,Fred Stachnik and Tom Anderson. It is just an example of poor design. You can use the regular bag in the machines but not the hepa because it has a rubber membrane around the collar of the machine. Also check out the position and design of the rear wheels. They just beg to be snapped off.
I wanted examples of the 100th Anniversary Hoovers but they are very sad examples of Hoover (although they are beautiful colors)."

And so I'll take a pass on these, beautiful Blue as they are and I'm sure will be passing one curbside within a year's time.

On the other hand, the Stainless Steel Constellation is selling for US$120 these days and I sure do like my $5 new white one. As Rob Mitchell attests in Thread Number: 4526
Surprising results from the Constellation.

I'm trying to recollect but I think they were selling the anniversary Windtunnels in the Hoover Historical Center house weren't they? Anyone remember how much there were.. $199 rings a bell

$199 is the current lower US price for the Anniversary Self Propelled so maybe that was the model at the Hoover Center?
