A BIG thank you to Hans Craig! I came home to a huge box on the porch...inside were plenty of those peanuts, and 4 beautiful mixers! 2 gorgeous Sunbeam Hand Mixers, a Chrome Mix-Master (UPS DESTROYED the base...) and a Fabulous Sears branded mixer...I'll be giving them a true workout pretty quick here...need to make me some Pound Cake!!
If anyone has a base they would sell, please let me know.... Thank you, thank you, Hans! |

Too bad about the base of that chrome Mixmaster. UPS should definitely reimburse you for that. I had a similar thing happen a few years ago with a chrome Mixmaster I bought on eBay. The seller actually shipped the thing with the motor unit attached to the base!!! He gave me a complete refund and let me keep the mixer, so I found a white base on eBay and ended up with a complete mixer and money left over from the original purchase.
You should have a pretty easy time finding a base on eBay. If you've just got to have one right away, you might have to settle for one in some random color but I guess a functional frankenmixer would beat a non-functional mixer and the chrome head would look okay with just about any color. Of course, you could always paint it brown like the original if you really hated the color. If it were mine, I might be tempted to hold out for a nice chrome base. They're made of metal instead of plastic, so in addition to just looking really cool, they're also heavier and more stable. You might also want to join the Yahoo group WACEM (We Actually Collect Electric Mixers). Somebody there might be able to help you out. |

Andy,
I just did a quick eBay search (should have done that before I posted my previous message) and there are a bunch of bases on eBay right now--chrome, brown, avacado, you name it. Most of them are around $20-$30 with shipping. Order what you like and make UPS pay for it. Cheers! CLICK HERE TO GO TO human's LINK on eBay |

Last time I was at Joliet Goodwill there was a whole mess of Mix-Master parts...I should go see if they still have them! If they do you are welcome to any you want that I don't need...I just want the base! I tried JB welding it together...it worked a little too well, since the release button ended up glued down!

Andy, that sounds excellent. Let me know if you'll be making it there anytime soon. Does that Goodwill normally have good stuff? It's only 45 minutes or so from me barring any Chicago traffic jams. I'm tempted to run down there one afternoon this week after work and see what they have. I'd probably find a couple other thrift stores to hit in the area then, so I wouldn't have to drive back until after rush hour.

The only problem with gluing that stand where it's broken is spring tension from the latch button. It may make it pop back apart.
My conscience is irrationally nagging at me right now because I used to have a nice chrome stand with a broken latch button but I tossed it in the dumpster when I moved three or four years ago. Just couldn't keep everything. It's kind of too bad because you could have used your latch button to complete it. Yeah, I should know better than to go down the 'coulda, woulda, shoulda' road, but that's one of my character defects. |
