weren't Sharp, Panasonic and Sanyo all part of the same company? I know for a long time, all 3 brands offered very VERY similar cleaners for sale, certainly here in the UK anyway. They were all pretty much the same basic machines with slight variations in design of the outer body.
It's a shame Panasonic have pulled out of the market. In the UK for many years, the basic bagged Panasonic uprights retailed for around £99. They were certainly the best budget uprights you could get. |

I have no idea about Sharp but Panasonic acquired Sanyo around 2009 and subsequently transferred some Sanyo product lines like Eneloop rechargeable batteries to the Panasonic umbrella and dropped other Sanyo product lines that competed with Panasonic's own, finally dropping the Sanyo brand itself by 2012.

If Samsung left vacuums, was it due to them exploding like the Galaxy Note 7? Because that phone is a terorrist in your pocket. Sanyo's unique machine was the Transformax. They had a stick-vac that used dry cloths from a Swiffer. |

Most of the Asian vac-makers only stopped producing cleaners for the North American market. They continue to make vacuum cleaners for the Japanese and Korean domestic consumer.
Hands down the most valuable contribution Panasonic/National/Matsushita made to the North American vacuum cleaner world is its purchase of the Hoover Dial-a-Matic upright design and making it work so much better. The grand finale to Panasonic's upgrade of the DAM was the introduction of the amazing Direct Drive revolving brush roll with the motor inside the brush. So sad that Panasonic is leaving us here in Canada and the USA. |
