Here is the end result of a nice gift that I received from my friend, John, in Australia. Is this the Aussie Dial a Matic?

This is a close up of the model name...yes you read correctly "DYNAMATIC"!

Actually no...John sent me the cover to an Australian Dynamatic and I attached it to an extra model 1120 DAM. At first look, it appears to be a Dynamatic. It still had the 1120 bottom plate and the US version cord and of course the US version of the dial. I really like the way this turned out. However, changing the panel was a pain in the neck! Thanks John!!! I was so surprised!

What's the difference between the dials?

No difference Pete,

Dials are the same, and for the most part the Dynamatic(this is model 1125) is identical to its US cousin save for: the switch/handle wiring setup is different, the bottom plate is held in place by screws instead of latches, and the model/serial number info is a sticker on the bottom plate.
Glad you like that Tom, it is a beauty!

I have the next version, model 1125A from 1973. Same cleaner, with the addition of the height adjuster.

Yup, that's the Aussie one!

When growing up, I only ever knew that machine as the "Dynamatic". It wasn't until I joined this site that I discovered the DAMs were called "Dial-A-Matic" in their homeland. Apparently the name "Dial-A-Matic" was already in use for a knife sharpener here in Australia when the DAM was released to the market.

As to the dials, there was a difference. The US is like a finger, as shown on the selector tabs for the discussion sections of this web site. The Australian dial was round. I have no idea why, although thinking about it, the finger-tyle would have made cord winding between the rear cover latch and the selector dial easier.

So that's 3 names!

Dial-A-Matic - US
Dynamatic - Australia
Convertible - UK
