The shaft is rusted on, and I am trying to remove the fan to oil the bearings. I have tried putting a screwdriver in the fan but every time I attempted that it just bent the fan. I also tried cutting up/smashing off the fan but it's one of those Kevlar ones so it won't crack. Is there any kind of hole to stick something into to lock the shaft of the motor?

Kirby has a tool that fits into the slots in the core of the armature and presses up against the iron core of the field coil to lock the armature so you can get the fan off.

Also you don't oil the bearings they use grease.

Jack,

I've never needed an armature locking tool to get a fan off. All I have ever needed to do is put a small screwdriver or Allen wrench thru the hole in the shaft and clamp one of the fan blades with a small vise grips or pliers and turn clockwise and it comes right off.

Keep in mind that you are turning the belt pulley shaft in the right direction which is Clockwise not CCW.

Does anybody have a model number for the armature lock tool? Or something I could use? I have replaced Kirby impellers before but I've never had one rusted on like this.

Jack,

The fan locking tool is part no. T130 and is designed for use on all Kirby cleaners going back to and including the Classic Omega 1CB.

Update- I got it off after soaking a lot of 3 in 1 oil into the shaft. It turned off pretty easily after soaking in for a day. Now the fan is taking in oil so I can pry that off tomorrow.
