He ought to try running his Hoover on 12 9V batteries in series!-Or even better 10 12V batteries in series-car batteries! Then it could work for a while. On the 9V batteries-maybe several minutes.

Hey it is a rare green 858 I would love to have one of those. I'd be afraid of overheating something with only 9 volts.

Rare? I didnt know that. How rare? Was $75 a good price with the hose and all the attatchments?

I'm not sure how rare it is but I've only seen two other green top 858 Constellations posted. I have heard the last ones were red on top and I have never seen even a photo of one of them. The orange top ones are pretty common I have two of them.
Worth is in the eye of the purchaser but I would have paid $75 in a heartbeat. Anyway you might want to use a more common model if you want to experiment on one.

You won't overheat the Constellation vacuum trying to run it from 9V.It won't draw enough power to heat the motor. You will run down the 9V battery first!Remember a YouTube video when someone there was trying to run a Skil 77 circular saw off a 9V battery-NOTHING-but when he tried a 12V car battery the saw barely was turning. If you do try to run the Constellation off say 120V DC -turn on the vacuum switch first.A single pole switch-for AC will burn the switch if you try to switch DC with it.I fried a switch in a small circular saw that way.the universal motor will work fine form AC or DC-but the single pole switch won't last. For motors run on AC or DC a DOUBLE pole switch is used-The Skill 77 series saws have the double pole switch.Single pole switches arc badly on DC power.
