First post and just found this cool forum. You guys have some really nice vacuums.

I need to know on my Hoover model 66, the rear wheel area. There is a fairly heavy spring that controls the height setting by lifting the rear axle under tension. Question is how does it go back? Are there any pictures showing this install?

It's part number 19 on appliancepartspros.com or www.appliancepartspros.com/05-mai...

Called the Rear Wheel Sup Sprin and Maytag part number AP4962031.

It goes under part number 15 right??

Or in the picture Hoover 66-1, it's the yellow area?

rear axle spring

The spring goes under the axle and puts tension to raise the rear axle (low carpet setting). When the height adjustment lever is moved forward to the high setting, you are suppose to push down on the handle, thus compressing the spring, and the hook shaped height adj. lever will clip itself over the rear axle on its own. If it does not, then the small spring on it is installed wrong.
