This cleaner was rescued last night from the persian rug war. I found it just thrown away in our garbage bulk pile for our condo. I have a knack I can spot them a mile away. He is my favorite soldier and the first male vacuum I have had lol. It will be a pleasure to bring him back to his glory.

as you can see this was before I have lots of plans for him. I have already put on a new bag which I will have the logos I saved stitched back onto the bag. The plastic is in great shape and overall gently used just left to die in the battle field. Tomorrow I am searching for a paint color to do the metal in. Any suggestions anyone.

TWO in one day! The red one is a real head turner. Somebody better versed in Eureka colors can tell you better how to set off the blue one.

What great Finds! The blue model was the first self propelled
that Eureka introduced at their feb. 1979 sales convention.
The Rust one came out about a year later in 1980/81 with
improved back wheels and a few minor adjustments. They're
for sure keepers. They have done good service all these
years. Still very useable cleaners for todays homes.

Wow two in a day. Can't believe that tattered bag..I'm still looking for the original blue bag myself for mine. They mustn't have been very sturdy as everyone that pops up has a fake bag on it.

Please do me a favor and check the power drive wheels on your blue one and tell me if they're ribbed or smooth but with a small flat spot on one part.

 Hi,

I'm going to add my seven cents here. I love the blue ones becasue they have the lighted logo in the hood that makes Eureka spelling and logo light up blue, and Self-Propelled light up a reddish pink, yet the later series did not hae that. At least the next one did not.

The first blue series ones had the vinyl bags by Eureka that did NOT hold up well in service, as the vinyl was thinner than contemporary makes, dried out easily, and was very prone to cracks rips and tears.

Over the years I have had several of the two that you've found, and out of the three I've had of the blue model only one had the original bag, and that had some minor fraying down by the ferrule that attaches to the cleaner. All the brandywine series, and for that matter most of the original vinyl bags that either had a pattern stamped in it, or were glossy toned just did not hold up well.

Mainly from housewives, or househusbands allowing the F&G bags to fill up to newborn baby status and weight, which was too much for the material...hence their rarity.

On the other hand, the Burnt Orange second series had the much tougher Triple Filter Fabric bags that hold up rather well. And as you can see by the earlier ones that had the blue Triple Filter Replacement, most of the plastic bag toppers were NOT retained. It makes them for some reason to me to look cheaper and not so expensive.

Another point of discussion is the relaiability of the Self-Propelled unit. It was a much more compact and durable unit than others, however if at all out of adjustment or if the clutch discs became greasy the unit woul fail to work, and from what I've seen over time people thought that this mecahnism needed to be lubricated which was NOT the case.

Also many unfamiliar hands would adjust the tensioner screws too tight or too oose also making the unit unuseable. It just seemed that Hoove's unit was the more durable of the two based by the fact that todays Self-Prop WT cleaners use a basic mechanism that was introduced way back in 1967 witht eh advent of the P-D Dial-A-Matic. If I'm wrong here please correct me. The casings difinitly went from metal to plastic for sure...

These if taken care of are pretty durable and awesome cleaning vacuums. The treatment of the machine pre-collectivity in my book will will out whether you will like the Eureka unit or not.

Those who've owned them praise their durability and smoothness in the drive, whereas people who have owned the Hoover self propelled owners eith like or complain about jerkiness.

Almost if you will the Eureka being a Dynaflush Drive Buick, whereas the Hoover was a Hydra-Jerk unit Oldsmobile or Cadillac... you decide...

Incidentally, none of the machines that I've owned which was three blue, two Burnt-Orange never had wheels that were siped or grooved a'la Hoover... Anyone care to show me what those looked like. I mean most if not all had the "flat" spot but were not grooved as mentioned... And i'm sure the difference of drive type was infulenced by the different types of wheels as well...

P.S. My current Self-Propelled Eureka incidentally is a early series blue Procision series witht the cord-reel and the peppercorn blue TripPle Filter bag... and the wheels on it are smooth with the flat spot also...

response to all.

 1. The wheels are exactly as described and have a flat spot and the rest of the wheels are ribbed.
2. I am going to sew the labels on the new bag to hold some of its integrity.
3. How do I adjust the drive system one works well in reverse the other works well in drive.
4. I think there boys because they have transmissions I dont know why but they look like boy vacuums.
5. Finally any assistance with paint colors and trans help would be great I love these two vacuums.

Thanks for that info Chad... it is interesting about the drive wheels, you say yours have all been smooth with the flat spot, same as mine. FQ's are ribbed but with the flat spot. Someone else at one time said theirs had ribbed wheels which made me think mine might not be original. You don't notice the flat spot when you're vacuuming carpet but you do if you move onto a hard surface, like driving a car with a flat tire banging along.

Dose your Blue one have just the on/off switch, rather then the 2 spd on the Rust one? Plus if you look close at the lock/unlock switch on the handle of the blue one. It is different then the lock out on the Rust one. Which I believe has the red button snapp over to the right to turn off the drive system. Which means that the blue is a first orginal machine before they made improvements. Like the better drive lock system and the 2 spd motor. I'll have to see if I can find some of my sales flyers from those days of introduction. Norm

 Thanks for all the help folks. I really need adjust the drive on it. The machine does not engage reverse very well. The handle is yes very different and no 2 speed motor.

Hey I am looking for the blue one.. I have the burned orange one.. it has the ribbed wheels instead of the flat spot like the blue one. My mom's best friend had the blue one in the 80's which is why I am looking for it.. childhood memories..

 You find me a celebrity or a hoover dimension 1000 its yours I am still working on the blue one. Having some trouble adjusting the drive. Its sunday so not doing much I am thinking about working on it after we move. There is a ereka esp my condo association is throwing away in good cond needs a new bag anyone interested I hate to see it get thrown away but my partner has had enough this week lol.

Cool.. still haven't found a celebrity.. or a dimension 1000 but I'll keep on the lookout.. My bf is like no more vacuums till we move.. :-( We found a bigger place to house the vacuums black lab 2 cats and ferret! My house is like a zoo!
