Wondering if pre Convertible Hoover uprights came with a high speed for tools? Example: The Citation? IF they were just one speed motors, what was the wattage?

Two speed Hoovers

The models 800 and 825 were two speed, as was the model 150. They were not automatic like the rear conversion Convertibles. The 60 through 64 side conversion cleaners were one speed (400-420 watts).

Wasn't there a Convertible Deluxe 1060 or 1070 that had a higher speed motor? I don't remember the model # exactly, I just remember it was taupe/beige with a turquoise hood. A neighbor of mine used to have one and I just remember that the motor had a higher pitch than the other convertibles for carpeting. When she attached the hose it sounded like it was going to take off.

1 or 2 speed

If the side conversion were only 1 speed motors at 400 watts how was the suction with tools? Was it worse then the Convertibles?

The model you are asking about is the 1070, manufactured from 1968-1971,finished in Marine Blue and Light, Medium and Dark Seal Greige. It did have a 2-speed motor whose higher speed automatically engaged upon insertion of the hose. In fact, my next-door neighbor had one when I was a kid.

THE ORIGINAL CONVERTABLES THE ONES THAT HAD REAR ENTRANCE CONVERTERS WERE 2 SPEED
THE SPEED UP WAS A PLASTIC PIECE IN THE BODY
THAT IS WHY THEY CALLED THEM CONVERTIBLES
AND I DO HAVE GOOD SUCTION FOR TOOLS ON MY 61 JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE BAG EMPTIED AND THE CONVERTER PORT CLEAR
