Hi everyone - I'm new on here and just purchased a Fantom vacuum model # fm788hc and wanted to know more about it. It's heavy as hell and gold in color. Just not sure what I have here...thanks!

It's...

A machine made after Euro-Pro bought the rights to the Fantom name after Fantom went bankrupt. The machine if I remember correctly was either built by, or at least based on the design of a Sanyo bagless machine. Mainly the Sanyo Dirt Hunter series. This was an HSN specific commercial machine that came in three colors. The one you have, a light metallic blue, and a light metallic green. They got beefed up over the normal Twister machines with metal components in high wear areas, and a grounded commercial grade cord. They're interesting little machines for the fact of how they came about, put into production by a brand that had mainly only made light cordless sweepers and hand vacuums, under a brand name they bought from an already established Canadian company that pioneered cyclonic bagless machines in the US market, made for them by a Japanese vacuum/appliance/electronics manufacturer. I've never used one but from what I saw they weren't bad quality machines, just far from the best Sanyo ever made/designed.

I used to have one of those.

It was a lower line model. I did like the hose, and the motor speed control. I did not like the dust cup set up but at least everything could be washed. I'm guessing yours is probably a better machine with the metal parts. Should clean carpet pretty well with a new belt. I think you might be able to still get a hepa filter online, should you need one. - Mitchell

They...

Do clean very well for what they are, they've got a very aggressive metal brushroll similar to what you see on higher end Riccar and Simplicity canisters and Tandem Air uprights.

That is a rare sight on a bagless vacuum!

The only other bagless upright that I can think of that ever had a metal brushroll I believe was a Sharp bagless.

It...

Is indeed. I'm pretty sure I have the HSN video from when Google Video (not YT) was still around. That's how I know about this machine, if I can find it I'll upload the video to my YT channel and post a link back here.

Here...

They are, I thought I wouldn't be able to find them for a while. My archives are a mess. So there's a color I forgot about a lavender/purple color, and two separate demo videos.

You're...

Very welcome! I had almost entirely forgotten about these machines and the videos before this post. I nearly bought a NIB blue one many years back off Amazon, they're such pretty machines.
