this one is from sean curry's collection. itll be up for grabs on ebay soon with a complete set of attachments and original paperwork. (im not listing , i just restored it) i just restored the cleaner, hence the attachments not pictured. the bag IS original and didnt touch it. i polished all the aluminum parts, rubbing compounded and waxed the paint and polished metal, installed a new belt and bulb, lubricated the wheel axles and greased the height adjuster. the wheels also needed some heavy work due to the rubber and have to scrape off considerable amounts of flatspotted rubber to round out the wheel's tires again.. motor still runs great amazing cleaner. now i really want one from this era even more than i did before.
anyways enjoy the photos. |

I worked for Acme Paint a division of Sherwin Williams. I had a regular customer that came in when she had different projects going. One time I helped her pick out wallpaper for an upstairs powder room. She wanted to hang the wallpaper herself, but didn't know how. I volunteered to help get her started. I actually hung the first strip.....and checked from time to time on her progress. It turned out very nice for a first time and she was just so pleased that she was able to do this with a little help.
Anyway, what does this have to do with this thread? She was the wife of a well known doctor (who had passed away) in Hamilton Ohio at the time. When I went to her home it took my breath. A beautiful Colonial Mansion with the sweeping staircase coming down the middle and on each side of that were two sitting rooms. Anyway when she opened the door, not only was her home breath taking but she had one of these Hoover's sitting at the bottom of the stair case in mint condition. It needed the bag emptied, but other than that it was mint. She said they got it when they got married and although it was getting more difficult for her to manage, she had no intention of buying anything else. She did have a maid to clean, but from her comment, she used it from time to time, as well. Absolutely beautiful machine and to think it was still cleaning a mansion. I actually had forgotten about her until your photo. What a great lady, who had a piece of Hoover History. She actually baked me a homemade chocolate cake and gave me a very nice thank you card. I know I still have the card somewhere, but I haven't been able to locate it. |

Absolutely beautiful! And the original bag is frosting on the cake! I love the Hoovers from that era and have several, including a 450, which is all original except for the bag. Here's a pic of my 450.
