It was suggested this might be an interesting thread, So I will start it, Im one of the few who very rarely use a power nozzle, most of my cleaning is done with a straight suction nozzle, As Tom has said, the Airway Pricilla rug tool really was great, it had a unique dual chamber design, the Apex rug tool, dosent look like much, but combine it with the superior airflow of the Strato cleaner and look out!,same goes for the Sunbeam, it employed a litter picker similar to the Hoover nozzles, which were also really good, believe it or not, one of the worst as far as picking up lint, is also one of the best looking, the Saniway rug tool is good for sand and grit, but nearly usless on lint,they designed a plastic insert called a Delinteater, which helped lint pickup, but hurt grit pickup, it was beautiful and very well made, but no where near as good as some others on the market, GE had some that were good, the mid to late 60s Twin Clean was really good, it borrowed the air injection feature from Rainbows superb Jet Rug tool, jets of air came in thru a slot around the top and rushed into the nap on either side of the nozzle itself where the brushes were angled, like Rainbows nozzle, it will pick up about any lint or threads in one pass, the Electrolux nozzles with their Gleaner , are really good on hair and lint...but ,like the early Airway Roller Rug Nozzle, they pick certain types of carpet badly, anything with a loop pile and youve got trouble, as for favorites..the Hoover 84 and 85 Constellation with the rear mounted wheels, and the GE Twin Clean are at the top of my list, I would have to say, the Filter Queen, is probably another in the top three, what dont I like much,the GE rug tools with the rollers, they do ok, just not my favorite, the Saniway is beautiful, but aggravating to use,and the later Hoovers have to be held at a lower position to do a good job, I am too tall to use them without stooping...so, come on guys, what are your favorites.

straight suction nozzles

 I like the eureka nozzles the older ones not the new ones out today.would anybody happen to have a wall brush in this aqua blue color? if so I am looking for one and a small elbow for a eureka electric broom.

After buying the great Electrolux UltraSilencer Green, I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of its "Dust Magnet" carpet/ floor nozzle. The two rows of carbon-fibre bristles along with the "rocking" suction channel combine with the articulating neck to create an outstanding attachment. On low pile rugs, keeping the bristles in the down position really helped pick up embedded dirt in the shallow pile. Nothing revolutionary....but somehow the design makes cleaning floors and low pile rugs a breeze! I also like the looks of the nozzle with its low profile. I immediately removed the promotional label affixed to the tool after unboxing the vac.

Oh...it also has nice felt bumper guards around the perimeter!

In my opinion the Compact Metal rug tool does a great job, also Electrolux Carpet nozzle and combo tool work great as well and Filter Queen are great mainly because of the suction and airflow created by the Lamb Ametek Motor .If i had to pick it would be either Compact /Tristar or filter queen just my 2 cents .
On a modern note Kenmore floor tool i've tried it on a small low pile rug when my power head when out on my bagless EVO canister did a good job .

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Swivel-Top's nozzle! It's the best straight-suction nozzle I've tried....but then again I haven't tried many straight-suction nozzles! tongue-out

You're absolutely right, my G-E nozzle aces on flat carpet, but takes some effort on Berber! Still, I'm always shocked at the junk this thing digs out of my carpet! laughing

GE flip rug/floor tool

 I've use the GE flip rug/floor tool on my 1955 GE pink canister for ever and it really picks up dirt and what's below in the carpet.For the bare floors it gets in the cracks and crevis's.Thats my choice.

rug/floor nozzle works wonderfully. I'm talking about the one that came with the Constellation and Celebrity canisters. The brush strip in the back digs down into the carpet and it picks up a lot of dirt.

I used my former G-E Swivel-Top on my low-pile carpeting with great success--even though the carpeting was in my garage and over time developed wrinkles that could not be easily smoothed out as it was not attached to the floor.

The only other brands of straight suction floor tools I have used are Eureka and Electrolux. Both worked fine. I especially liked the gleaner feature on the Electrolux ones--either the first versions with the on/off switch or the later ones that have the perpetual mode--which make lint, fuzz, pet hair, et cetera easy to remove. One of the previous responders indicated that the Electrolux tool did not work well on his looped carpet. I am curious if he was using one with an on/off switch? If so, the moving the gleaner switch to the off position would produce better results.

Btw, Aerus's (formerly Electrolux Corporation's) combination rug-floor tool and upholstery-dusting brush designs are 60 years old this year; debuting with the Model E (albeit the former has become an option and the latter is only sold with the Lux Classics or as an option). Alas, Aerus has not ever stamped its name on its tools like it did when it was called Electrolux. I wonder what other vacuum cleaner companies continue to use attachment designs that have been used for decades?

I'm whit you on this one Floormatic ,Nothing better than a good ol Metal rug tool to get the job at hand done in the most delightful way .Also metal rug tool weigh more so they tend to dig in the piles of the area rug or carpet far better than it would of been the case if you were to use a cheap brittle plastic floor tool .

The combo rug/floor tool is standard with the Platinum and Legacy and all Aerus vacuums come standard with the dusting/upholstery tool.

Even though the idea of the Electrolux flip floor tool is fantastic, I don't care for the floor brush side. It snowplows the dirt like crazy, and always gets covered in dog or cat hair. I do like the rug side, though.

I think you could replace the brushes with the newer style that has spaces between the bristles which alleviate that problem; they look like the same fit as the traditional ones. You just remove the brush plate with the two screws, remove the bumper, use a screw driver to slightly bend back the metal where it's crimped just enough to allow the brushes to be removed, then snap the new brushes in place, press the metal back with a pliers, refasten the brush plate to the holder and reattach the bumper.

As much as I love

 Vintage stuff....Those new style bristles REALLY are great!One of the few modifications I will make to an old cleaner...one reason why a Compact floor brush picked up so well was it had a cutout in the brush strip so litter could be picked up....a great idea more people should have used!

Now I know the reason for the little notch in the Compact floor tool! I love the photos here, seeing the different designs up close is totally cool.
