I have found these REALLY old vacuum bags and have no idea whether there's a vacuum cleaner old enough to use them! Can anyone help please?

Thanks in advance.

I think the second one down may be for the Constellation?

VERY Constellation,

With the last ones being Dial-A-Matic bags (but known to Britain as the Convertible, and our Convertible was the equivalent of your Senior). The top ones look for the Hoover Aerodyne 61, but did they have those on Britain?

I have no idea! Are they original/saleable?

Selling them

Put them on ebay like so much of the other stuff you have up there at the moment.

The first bags are for Electrolux models 62 & 65.

Pictures 2, 3 & 4 are indeed bags for Constellation and portable models as has been noted above

Picture 5 are bags for the Hooverette model which again was on sale for 20 years or so.

And yes, the last bags are for what we knew as the Convertible.

I would say that all these bags are saleable, although most will not command any great premium as there are plenty of them for sale on ebay and other parts suppliers already. The Hooverette and the Convertible bags are more unusual although the Hooverette and the Electrolux models do not actually need paper bags to operate. I doubt there will be many of these machines in daily use but they might be of interest to collectors.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how have you managed to come across such a lot of old stock machines. I am not questioning that they are as you have represented, I am just curious as to how they could have been forgotten for so many years

Treasure trove....

I can assure you we did not put the cleaners away for 15-20 years with the intention of them becoming desirable!

My partner owns Cee-Jay, a domestic appliance retailer established in 1952, passed down from his grandfather to his father (and hopefully one day to our son). During David's time at the healm, he accrued stock which (as he ran the operation by himself) he did not have the time to sell on. It sounds absurd letting valuable stock sit still, unsold for such a considerable amount of time but that was just his way. I should add here that he was successful in other ways and just couldn't resist a bargain!

Therefore when he retired in 2011 we were faced with the task of clearing out six shops which were used for storage purposes and still carry an assortment of discontinued items. There is no doubt that a good amount of the stock has devalued over time I am now discovering that for some it has the opposite effect.

I have CRT TV's in boxes new, Kitchen appliances which are retro to say the least and hairdryers, curling wands etc. I am only beginning to realise the true value!

Defiantly put the 2944 bags on eBay! I may cuck a bid or two on if I can hide it from the missus, my Hooverette has a torn cloth outer bag so these would be ideal!

Indeed, but look at the interest this stock has caused now, and many of us cannot believe we are seeing these items for sale again, so long after they disappeared from the shops. This is why we are prepared to pay so much money for it.

Its a basic law of economics. Demand is High - Stock is low, therefore Price is High.

Most of these items will never be made again, thanks to James Dyson, and there are still people who want them, but companies stopped making them because Dyson has dictated and pretty much monopolised the vacuum market since the mid 90's.

Whilst this is in one part quite correct, I doubt that when the original cost prices are taken off, plus the time spent retrieving and cataloging these goods, that the current owners are going to make much out of the exercise. But I cannot blame anyone for trying to release the capital. Quite who will buy the CRT TV sets, I don't know. Seems such a shame to have to dump them.

Thanks for the explanation, which does make some sense and I hope you will find that what might have seemed like a hopeless situation is going to turn out to your advantage.

Opened in 1952 eh? I wonder what will be in that stock room as you get further back into it LOLOLOL

Good luck with your sales - I might even buy some of the bags myself

I was dubious at first, about these items, but now that more and more is listed and pictures are there to confirm their existence, I am more confident about bidding again. Ebay auction  really is the best way to get the best prices, as we are already seeing. Especially when most of the UK members of Vacuumland are in hysteria about these vacuums. Some members here have aspergers, and must have some of these vacs at any cost. The seller has done the right thing to bring our attention to her stock, and we must also thank CitroenBX for alerting her to make contact with us, even though it was done in a rather muddled way.
