Just picked this little thing up from a charity shop. For some reason, the suction is terrible, and it has a brand new bag in it? I find that a bit odd but never mind :)

Perhaps a clog? Take the tubes off and take them outside. Look through the end up to the sky. If you can't see daylight, its clogged.
Does the motor sound like it's struggling?

One more thing, if you let, check the motor pre filter, could be clogged. Might never been cleaned. It happened to me once with a friend's vacuum.

I am not above using a broom handle to check the hose/ tubes . Garden hose in a pinch too.

Tried for clogs, filters etc but maybe it's just not a very powerful vac lol.

Well in that case, all that is left is to whip the motor out and see if the fans are clogged with debris.

Yes Benny - that's exactly what I thought. If the bag has burst in the past and crap got into the motor fan, it could be clogging the actual fan itself. I've seen this in an old Electrolux 502, where there was so much fluff trapped in between the motor fans it hardly had any suction. Was a right swine to get the fluff out as well due to the twin fan design.
