Was wondering about the Riccar carpet cleaner / extractors. Somewhere I read that they had developed one, but I haven't seen much information. Did they abandon the project? If not, how do they compare to Bissell Big Green / Rug Doctor? How well do they perform? Where does one buy one? the link has a picture of one. How are they priced?

I rented one of those a few years back from the riccar dealer out in Dickinson ND it seemed to do a pretty good job, but man they are heavy.
It has a large cylindrical brush underneath that has some pretty soft brushes.
I can't really compare it to the rug doctor or big green as i've not had a chance to use them side by side but i can definitely say it was the heaviest of the three and if i recall it does not have a removable clean water tank which makes it a pain to drain.

thanks for the information. I did see a dry cleaning device, but the carpet washer/extractor seems to either be abandoned or for commercial users only.

The Riccar/Simplicity shampooer is a large unit, like a Rug Doctor. It was modeled after the Rug Doctor. The dirty water tank is on top. It holds three gallons of clean water. Like the Rug Doctor, it was designed to be pulled backwards. And like a Rug Doctor, they are fairly expensive (about $500). Many dealers use it as a Rental unit, rather than sell them.

Hello Tom,

Is the price you mentioned a missprint (i.e. $500)? At the link given, it gives the msrp as $1600.

For that price, you could buy 3 Bissell Big Green upright extractors! And they would work just as well, too. I wouldn't even DREAM of spending that much on this extractor....way too exorbitant for what it is.

I think the Riccar extractor was for COMMERCIAL and rental use by householders and contractors.Don't think the machine is intended for retail sales. It really appears to be a high quality commercial-industrial type machine.Way above Rug Doctor and others-esp those for household sales and use.

Dysonman1,

I didn't mean any disrespect with my question, so I hope you didn't take it that way. My 15 year old dog has developed an incontinence problem, so I was looking at all my options. I really like Riccar/Simplicity products, but they don't seem to do much to promote their deep cleaner/extractors or their dry carpet cleaner.
