Hi all, first time poster here.

I just got back a DS 80 from the rebuild shop in Cleveland. It took a month, but was well worth the wait. I was stunned when the guy brought it out from the back. Absolutely beautiful polish job! It came back with the correct green trim, with two exceptions. The cord and the bag guard on the Em Tor. When I took it in I asked what parts would be green. I was told they have everything but those two that I mentioned. The green cord I took in was like new, so he let me keep it. When I asked about reusing the green guard, he said they could probably clean it up and reuse it. Unfortunately it didn't happen and a black one was put on. They also added a new black cord, so now I have a spare.

Hopefully I can find a green bag guard somewhere to top it off. All in all I'm very happy with the experience. The $350 dollar price seemed steep, but it's like new with a one year warranty.

Would anyone else care to share their rebuild experiences?

I got lucky and found a new bag guard at a local Kirby distributor. Now it's all finished. I dont think it will see too much use. It's too damn nice!

To me...

The D-80 is the last really great Kirby, all the models since are too big and heavy, I love the d-80.

Fantastic job and one great machine! This is a 1934 early model C, and it was nearly completely demolished when I got it with broken dye cast and the works. It took some work, but it was well worth the pain and effort in getting done it right.

Very nice Model C. I've never seen a pic of one with the nozzle off. Congrats on a job well done!

Love the 80 , yes almost too pretty to use and enjoy! My stepfather had that when mom married him, she couldn't push it, I could!! Was a great machine.

Wow

I think that is the most beautiful Kirby I've seen.
I really like the green and I also really like the Kirby logo on the front of the Nozzel.

What I like the most about the D 80 besides the color, is the new style handle fork replacing the tube style fork that the D 50 had. The front label is a work of art!

Looks like as new as you can get! I have one orignal, and a Frankenkirby with the tube style handle with a green grip, and I put new wide green wheels on the front, love them both! When the convention toured Kirby back in '05, there rebuild department was amazing. From what I hear, you were lucky they had what green parts they did have.

What surprised me the most was the new green em tor tray. Everything I see on the net shows it made in black only. The rebuild shop must have the last of new green trays.
