Out of all the Hoovers of the past and present, which model do you think is the best? Which model (past or present) is the worst?

The worst is the Hoover Z. Absolute abomination and monstrosity. Followed by the Windtunnel 2 design, which was horrible.

For best, you'll get hundreds of different answers. Was the 541 the 'best'? How about the 700 with the first agitator? Or the beautiful 150? Maybe the 60, with Hoover's first disposable bag they were legally allowed to use? Or the 725 with the illegal disposable bag (for which Air-Way sued them). The gorgeous 825 would probably be my answer, but there really were so many good models it's really a personal choice.

my vote always goes to the Concept 1

Best is Hoover CONCEPT 1

Worst is Hoover Empower, though any of the machines that use the dreadful tower filter are in the running, the Empower excels at lacking durability, style, quality, user friendliness, and ability to maintain power!

At least the Z, the inefficient monster that it is, has some cool features. :o)

Best--Convertible & prior models
Worst--WindTunnel T-Series, NanoLite, Mach 3 & Mach 5

My all-time favorite is the U4125 Guardsman

My vote for the best goes to the Hoover Concept one. My vote for the worst goes to the Windtunnel 2. That thing was terrible! It was too big, heavy, didn't have that much suction and the "self cleaning" filter broke and stopped spinning.

Hoover Turbopowers and Turbomasters, they don't half have some power, and are an excellent performing machine, but for excellent performance and build quality, the Juniors and Seniors, For convenience good performance and quietness, Turbopower 2/3.

My vote?

From the last 15 years- windtunnel ultra
Best of all? Upright- concept one, but the convertible was important to hoover as well
Canister- The dimension 1000 is my vote- it doesn't filter well, but because it's power controls were ahead of it's time ( yes I know Kenmore had power controls earlier), and for it's excellent carpet cleaning ability, I feel that was their best canister.

One Fifty!

No Contest, 1936 and it had an automatic height adjustment that still works even on todays carpet, two speeds, a plug in hose connector and a time to empty signal, and it cleans great, just about every cleaning contest in years past that a 150 entered it won., a 60 ,61,2 and 3 are really the last great Hoovers, Convertibles are good, but really not in the class with the earlier machines, the Dial A Matic probably is the most important thing Hoover ever built because it was the prototype for all modern cleaners.

I also appreciate a good "Constellation", and a nice Concept. But, with a HOOVER... heck, just pick one!

I Think//

One thing we can ALL agree on, any of the Hoovers made pre 1980 were great!

The Concept 1 was definitely one of the best cleaning Hoovers produced, but using one on a daily basis can be tiring due to their weight.  That being said, I would argue the later 5amp A-bag Convertibles were the best Hoovers. They were lightweight, finally incorporated a decent deposable bag, and possessed superb cleaning ability.   Some may argue that the tool suction is inadequate, but just remember the old slogan: The Hoover Cleaner Makes Rugs Last Longer. The purpose of a Hoover is to clean and extend the life of carpeting.

I have to agree that the bagless Windtunnel II was the worst.  The self-cleaning pre-motor filter was a horrible idea. At least with the Twin Chamber machines the filter is user accessible. If not for the Windtunnel II, the bagless Tempo would come next.

Best: Innovation. runner up is concept series.
worst: any clean air machine with the pleated paper tower filters.

WOW

I didn't think I'd get this many answers. Thanks a lot for answering. It seems like the Concept One and the convertible are favorites for a lot of people, so I'm certainly gonna look into adding them to my collection, but for now, I can't add anymore to my collection. Need to stop spending money and start saving it with school starting.

For Me would go with the Convertible series as their best-and Jrs.Worst would have to be the Z-that clunky thing was like pushing a wheelbarrow full of bricks-and using it like a canister-was like trying to wrestle a drunken sailer!Hated that stupid dust bin and clacking filter.
