I presume it's for the tradition but I always thought the tradition one was grey?

That is a rug reno head, with a miracle head brush.
You can tell because it has the cut outs in the head to slide it onto the shampoo tray, the miracle head does not have these cut outs. Only holes for the screws which hold the axel shaft in place.

And yes some were painted blue, while other rug reno's are plain aluminium, I have both types.

The bare-chrome Tradition 3CBRR Rug Renovator nozzle casting applied to 1979-80 season sales, whereas the blue-painted version of the same casting applied to 1980-81 season sales.

That was the first year that Kirby tried to powder coat the aluminum, they sent us special touch up paint at the time to touch up the miracle head when it got scratched. The earlier powder coating was crude and it did peel quickly especially if it got scratched and moisture was allowed to enter the scratch, the Heritage Sani Emptor was another disaster when it was powder coated.
