Mine are exactly 1/2" in length should i replace them?
Also i now have the motor out, not so easy the first time! I got this far because i want to grease the motor bearings. Seems i just hold the drive shaft & loosen the nut, is the nut turned clock-wise to remove?

To answer my own question(s)...

looks like new carbon brushes are not much long than my old ones juging from this picture of a NOS sale i found.
The carbons on a Concept I are far longer than these Dials for whatever reason.

Also looking at schematics of the motor it looks like you just pry off the base of the motor by inserting a large screw driver in the slots & go from there.
