Hi,
I bought a kirby sanitronic from an auction this weekend. I wanted to take the bag off and wash it, but I'm not sure how to remove it the right way as I have never had a kirby before. I'm scared that I will rip it if I just pull it off.

at the bottom of the bag where it meets the metal emptor there is a spring that goes around the emptor. it is sown in to the bag so what you have to do is pry the spring from the emptor with a screw driver. i will try to post pics of video in a few days

It's fairly easy.  Raise up the plastic bag guard where the bag attaches to the Em-Tor.  Then gently pry the bag spring up on one side and it will slip right off.  Sometimes the bag spring is very tight, so you'll need to use a little more effort.  A flat blade screwdriver can help too.  But be careful about tearing fabric, especially if the bag is fairly old.

Bag Removal

Get the Sani-Em-Tor (big metal box under the bag) off, by pulling the bottom where the colored tray is away from the machine. Next, Pull off the rubber trim ring away from where the bag meets the em-tor. Next, pry the bag spring away from the top of the em-tor with your hands, or a blade screwdriver. Use caution.
