The first Canadian Electrolux plastic body canister vac. Snatched if off eBay.ca cheap from Kingston, Ontario. But it was an excruciating pain in the butt convincing the ebay consignment store people physicaly based in Canada to ship it from Canada to Canada - they were quite adament that they drove their items across the border to Vermont to ship, even back to Canada. Simply confirmed my impression that some few greedy ebayers make their money overcharging on 'handling' fees. In the end I had it sent to my buddy in Butler PA, costing more than I paid for the vac. It arrived rediculously tossed into a carton with NO packing material whatsover. Fortunately all that plastic bounced off itself with no damage, tho the bolted rubber ring that the motor mounts with-in was torn away, leaving the motor unsupported and destroying full suction - I made a new one. Good as new, only missing the suction control dial on the top. This one has the bean counter mandated dumb non-extending wand in the purely cosmetic plastic sheath...why bother? Jeez.

Love those sexy anti-tip pontoons around the caster. You can see how scratch & scuff free this one is. I'm not all that interested in the plastic vacs but it is the first Canadian model and complete so why not.

Now, the User Manual. The book flips over and the other half is a duplicate in French, of course. The cover has a fold-in flap that serves as a bookmark, a handy function that more manuals should incorporate.

Nice one. Though I prefer uprights I have a few canisters incl an AP280 (very similar to that) The red z88, green z forget at the moment. and the older z silver alligator without attachments. I use the AP280 mainly with the handi mate power nozzle for stair carpeting and in the car. The floor brush is a little inconvenient with two shedding dogs because it has brushes all around the perimeter and they just grab onto that dog hair and it doesn't get sucked up into the hos. There's been a yellow one sitting at the Sally Ann here for quite a while but the handle across the top is broken off. Theres also a green Z at the flea market been there for months but I won't buy from the guy.

while I'm on about Canadian Electroluxs...they use a smaller diameter hose connector. I can not use any American Electrolux hose with canadian vacs. This is my Mom's late 1960s Z89 Elux-o-matic. I have everything including the PN-1 and the telescopic wand...but not the pigtail hose.

Anyone got a spare Canadian pigtail hose in any color/condition or a pale green non electric one I can wrap a clip-on cord around?

And if you've got a z-89 manual, please post it here...or sell it to me. :-)

Yup, the door pops when the bag's 'full'. Note how Canadian Electrolux bag chamber orientation differs from American.

My very first vac was an AP280. I had it up until the time I traded it for a Lux 6500SR.

They sure are, Norm. You can go to a dealer or go to any SEARS Canada department store - there's one right here in my small town out at the mall. They are the exact same models as American now.

WQelkl, I suppose manufactured is a relative term what with most if not all components sourced overseas and I don't know if they are even assembled here now.

Errrr Dave...those are not the same Electrolux as the old ones. The old US and Canadian Elux Co. is now called Aerus.
Long story short;
Electrolux in the US and Canada licensed the Electrolux name from the Swedish parent company way back decades ago. About 10-15 years ago Electrolux Sweden bought back the N.American rights to the Electrolux name and began building those contraptions sold at Sears etc.
The company that had been building the Cdn/US Electroluxs all these years is now called Aerus and is still in business but for how long who knows.

Yup, Pete, I know all that convoluted history. So the answer to the question I interpreted that Norm posed is: Aerus makes those modern plastic linear airflow canisters now familiar in design to the Zs, XXXs and LXs, while Electrolux Sweden makes the tangerine/silver Egg shaped mini bag alien Podvacs available at Sears. I must say the Podvacs certainly look convincingly like most excellent SciFi raygun/flamethrowing/acid spewing props. :-) Much more convincing than the Dysons, which hark back visually to Dick Tracy's collegue Dr. Diet Smith's inventions for Moon Maid's use.

So the question is, where are both these vaccum brands now manufactured/assembled. Who can enlighten us?
