Vacs in the Fantom video |

When the Fantoms came on the market, I was so impressed, I believed they would make all others obsolete. I ordered the free video, which I still have.
In the video there are some other vacuums shown. There is a beige Hoover Convertible, which a woman is shown tugging at the dust bag, trying to remove. You can also see an orange Eureka canister in a few scenes. It appears to be a straight suction. In one scene the same woman is trying to carry the vacuum up the stairs. In another she pulls the vacuum behind her and is annoyed that it gets caught on the table legs. Then she is shown sneezing while changing the dust bag in the Eureka. I thought it was strange they used such old vacuums in the video. Those were at least 15-20 years old at the time (probably about 1994-95). You can also see lots of vacuums (many high end) at a vacuum store that the owner claims "were all traded for Fantoms". LOL | ||

Kenmore Destiny? Didn't Kenmore badge it first as the Destiny? or was it the other way around, Fantom sold it as a Kenmore Destiny? | ||

I agree, they made those older vacuums look like they were dinosaurs, and those 68 machines traded for Fantoms. LOL I did not realize that Fantom had videos for each model.
lovecanisters, one of my Sears catalogs has the Kenmore Destiny. These were 11 amp machines and didn't have a HEPA filter. I think the original machines were badged as Iona Fantom, but there was no Thunder label. Later, the machines were badged as Fantom Thunder, and the data label read Fantom Technologies, Inc instead of Iona. I believe there was a Kenmore Destiny II as well, and Kenmore also sold a rebadged Fantom Lightning in the late 1990s. I don't know if they sold any others though. | ||

 Dyson licenced his duel cyclone technology to fantom. Dyson also designed the amway cyclonic vacuum which they tried to steal the idea when he was trying to get the idea into production. they went to court and eventually it was decided that Amway had to pay James royalties for every machine they sold
As for the old vacuums, thats what most vacuum salesman do, when Kirby knocks at your door and you actually let them in they know that you are only interested because you have a problem with your current vacuum why else would you want a new vacuum if you were happy with your old one.
You could sell any vacuum doing this, any new vacuum is going to clean better than one that is not working properly.

It all depends on what you sell as to what you will have traded inn. IE: I sell allot of dysons so we trade inn allot of sebo's and miele's. one of the main reasons people do trade them in is because of the cost of the bags and not always been able to get them when you need them.
When I go to our rainbow agent he has loads of traded inn Kirby's and when I go to the Kirby agent he has loads of traded inn rainbows. Its not an accurate way of seeing if a machine is good or not
funny thing is that in SA people really love there dysons , they have only been here officially for 7 years so there are no throwaway ones yet , I wish there were , I cant get enough second hand ones to fill the demand for them. I import used ones from the UK fit new motors, filters and brushes and sell them , they are very expensive new here , about twice the price of a miele not nearly as bad as a Kirby or rainbow ( you could buy 5 dc25's for the price of one rainbow or kirby). | ||
