Apparently, the original switch in the base had failed. Because somebody rigged a slider lamp switch on the cord. Is it possible to get another switch? I'm thinking about replacing the cord anyway.

Did these come with attachments? I know the Kenmore versions did, by looking at the posts from the Sears catalogs on this site.

The inside

The whole motor is built around the plastic base. The armature, fans and field coil just pop out, after all of the screws are removed. The design of the motor is probably why the vacuum is so noisy.

hey there...

Congrats on your find..... it looks to be in great shape.

I have two of those... the blue and red one is one like we had when I was growing up.... another collector sent it to me for free when he got tired of his.... the other one a friend gave me and I've been going to send it to Mr. Kenmore81 for like a year and a half now.... I still plan to, I'm just the queen of procrastination....

They seem a little fragile, and they are loud, and the cord is short, but there's just something about them..... the are powerful, and really stick to the floor!

Yes, I totally agree, Bobby. I remember reading your post some time ago. I also had the same Singer System pictured on the right, but I gave it Jason Huber. Now, I'm on the lookout for the Kenmore version.

Below is a link to a video that I found on Youtube. I think that the self-propelled version is cool! The bare floor attachment is neat! It reminds me of the Kirby hard surface plate.
