Any one on here have one of those? If so how were they? Were they good hand vacs, or were they just corded dustbusters? I attatched a link to some commercials I found, watch the first three groups of commercials and skip to the collector commercial. I think they are really creative commercials! And kinda funny to.
Enjoy!

B&D actually had a real canister vac back in the 80/90's called the Valet.. it looked sort of Eureka ish. Chad found one here a couple of years back. I don't imagine they're that common.

The Collector hand vac... are you talking about model no. 9375 which has the same coffee hue as the model no. 9333 Dustbuster Plus?

Collector

My great uncle had one. They were quite a bit larger than a Dustbuster and were corded and pretty powerful for a hand vac. They were really loud. I don't remember if I ever opened his, but I think they used the same kind of pre-filter that the dustbuster used - I don't think it took bags, but I could be wrong.

I slogged my way through that long video to the Collector commercial. That's the same vacuum I remember my great uncle having. I'd say that they show it functioning as it truly did. A Dustbuster never would clean like that, even brand new. The Collector was AC-dependent, not rechargeable, so it had a lot more power. I never really used the Collector - my great uncle, I believe, was a latent vacuumphile, and he also had an Electrolux upright and a Kirby Legend II. I spent most of my time there playing with those. (That was before I had my own, of course.)

Thanks for resurrecting the memory! :)

I don't know about the OP, but I'd LOVE to see pics of that machine. I never took my uncle's apart that I can remember. I don't quite see how that machine could be fan-first, but you have one and I don't, so please show us whatever pics you feel like taking.

Actually..................

There were two different collector vacs, The early 1980's one that looks like a big corded dustbuster, then an early 1990's one that is a fan first, brush equiped hand vac with a hose. I have the 90's one that came from ebay just yesterday and it is very interesting indeed. If someone could post a picture of the one I am talking about, please do.
