I thought the model 65/31 convertibles had the unique shaped outer bags, wider at the top than later models. Did they change the shape during the production of the 65/31, or did they wait until the models 66/32. I have seen a model 65 with the more narrow top bag, but wouldn't that be from the pink/white model 67? Tom, Fred, Jeff?

 you are correct, original model 65 bags were only the wide type.
Model 31 had a rather long run, and the later models had the narrow bags, as well as white painted bases instead of the pale green.

 There's currently a model 65 on ebay with a narrow bag, which I believe to be from a model 67.
It looks ok, and is a decent match.

65/67 Hybrid

 Thanks Jeff, did see that but I'd really prefer to have an all original machine. I had one years ago that was pristine, but that was before I starting collecting seriously and I sold it to a woman I worked with who wanted a durable upright that her kids couldn't tear up, ugh, at the time I had no idea that was the first convertible. I wish I could retrieve some of the vacs I've had and sold over the years, but little did I know at the time that I'd be a collector. Thanks again, good to hear from you!

The Convertible on Ebay.....

 Is up to $250! the high bidder has been a member for under a week!! and the next one under 30 days.

If I was the seller id be cancelling bids I think!

I can't what some of this stuff is selling for on ebay, if every Convertible I have is worth $250...WOW!

Still though Model 65's are getting fewer and further between, although I would venture a guess there are still more than a few left out there.
I hope the seller gets his price!

Rick...I agree with Jeff. The 65 Convertible should have the wider model 64 Citation style bag. The 31 started out that way but changed to the narrower bag toward the end of production. Yikes...I bet her kids did in your old 65! They will run forever but those old vinyl bags just aren't made to take it. I am sure that you will run across another one and one that is very reasonable. They are still out there waiting to be found. The one on ebay has a 67 bag on it. It looks good but it is not an exact original.

Hoover 65

 I have to tell the story of my Aunt buying that Hoover new at the time w/attachments. She lived in a small, 1930's two bed room house. Had one living room rug.Used the Hoover until 1985,
I took it in on trade for a new Eurka upright w/tools,
when I had my vac shop. She gave the tools to my
cousin who had a 585, with no attachments My Aunt used that machine
almost every day for close to 30 years.
I took the 65, used it for parts in my shop. It was not
in good shape, even though it had repairs and upkeep over the
years!! Wish I had it now, with the history. Never though I would be collecting vacuums again in the future. She' had
another Hoover and now a used Eureka, since then.
