me, my name is Rick and I just want to let you know that your knowledge of vacuum cleaners and your web site has re-ignited my desire to collect, rebuild, and study vacuum cleaners. It is not too many threads go by on DOV that you have not offered someone a little advice, or direction that was appreciated... I know you have helped me on more than one occasion. That's all I wanted to say except, hope to meet you at the convention! Oh, was that a XXX hose next to the AE & E in the photo about turquoise? If so, WOW!!!

Hi Rick, and welcome!

Thanks very much for your kind remarks. For me, a willing and helpful spirit -- borne out of collectors' mutual obsessions for vacuum cleaners -- embodies the VERY SPIRIT of what this club is all about.

For so many years, since I was a little boy, I felt so very alone. I thought I was "the only nut in the world" who had a "thing" for vacuum cleaners. When I met Stan Kann in 1990 [see link], it was a life-changing revelation for me and, as they say, "the rest of history."

I was thrilled beyond description when the two original club founders agreed to get the Club going again. This was like Christmas, 365 days a year!

Any time I can do anything to help out a fellow collector, or do something to make this club even better, I'm willing. Not because I think I am a big-shot know-it-all or because I want people groveling at my feet, worshiping my greatness. It's simply because I love this Club so very much. It has been a great source of happiness, delight, whimsy, and, yes, even "mental health recovery" over the years. It just doesn't get any better than this!

As to the meeting in Omaha, unfortunately I will not be able to attend.

I have in fact been criticized by some (who of course are ignorant of the facts) for not coming to more meetings, so let me take this chance to explain why I do not do so.

My low meeting attendance over the years has not been due to disinterest or laziness (nor being a prima donna, as has been suggested), but because of the fact that I am a church organist employed on Sundays; getting time off (without pay) and securing a substitute (at my own expense), on top of the expenses of attending the meeting, has meant that it simply has been financially out of reach for me to participate in the Club in that manner.

Anyway, Rick, thanks again for your nice comments, and I hope to see you posting here again, and often!

Oh, and yes, that is an Electrolux XXX hose you see in the photo. It was a special gift to me from one of the Greatest Sweeties in the VCCC, Tania Voigt of Wisconsin. She's truly an amazing, warm, kind, FUN person. Everyone in the Club should get to know her.

And one day, if you're lucky, Rick...

Charles will let you see his garages. There are definitely treasures in them there "car holders" (no cars, that's for sure!)

Garage Treasures

Well, there aren't too many treasures out there anymore -- after three garage clean-ups, the garage is pretty much barren. As those who participated in the last one will tell you --- I think they may have felt a bit rooked when they realized the pickings were already a bit slim.......! But we all had a good time anyway, and there -were- some goodies to be found.

Z89

I got mine on eBay. Since I don't live in or near Canada (I'm in California), I don't run into these machines very often. You might contact collector Doug Smith - see his web site at the link below. His site is FANTASTIC --- many, many pages of Canadian machines. If you contact him, tell him I said hello!
