Very cool, but I wonder why there is not a curved handle on the hose where it attaches to the wands. I remember seeing other machines like that as a kid and never understood that.

Curved wand!!

Charles, like a lot of other old Kenmores, this one does have the curved wand...they just kept turning the hose till it threaded itself all the way to the suction relief, when I get it fixed I will post more pics, the picture of the deluxe powerhead in the book, is the first pistol grip ever made,as far as I know, and the L shaped powerhead and electrified hose were way ahead of everyone else! The Whispertone with this setup is my all time dream machine, I would trade about anything I have for one!

Seriously, I mean it Hans - this is the sort of Happy Vacuum Collecting Happenstance that far out-shadows any of those pesky annoying 'Ones That Got Away aka $355 KENMORE WHISPERTONE 90' incidents that feebly attempt to clog our path to vacuum Bliss. The Fates were surely smilin' down upon you, Hans.

Sears always did provide the most complete documentation and after-sale service for anything they sold and I love the implied inherent belief that the owner was fully capable of doing their own repairs. To this day I know I can call up Sears Service and obtain the 21 year old parts for my snowblower. I wonder what SEARS' official cut-off date is for warehousing spare parts? wouldn't be at all surprised that somewhere in the SEARS Central Warehouse on some long forgotten dusty shelf there are 48 year old replacement parts including a complete De Luxe Power Mate pn, unless 40 years is the cut-off date rather than 50.
Ah well, one will surely find its way to you one day, you have the most spectacular Luck. :-)

Dave

Hans, that is a spiffy machine and like you I want the Lady Kenmore Whispertone bad. I just came across a Sears newspaper ad from the 12/7/60 Bakersfield Californian and it had that Lady Kenmore with the L-shaped powerhead and pistol grip hose for $159.95.

And is that a Bradford model on the bottom?

@Hans - "Curved wand!!" ... I see. But there were some canister and tank machines that did not have a curved handle. I don't remember now which ones but do remember seeing them, and thinking it was dumb that there was no handle!

ALEXB !!!!!

Thanks so much for posting that ad, I didnt realize that the Whispertone was made 2 years,I have seen that powerhead in pink though, but couldnt get it, Jimmy Martin in Tenn. has it,when that one came up recently I was puzzled because it was called a Whispertone 90, and looked to be a blue green color, evidently the 61 model was called Lady Kenmore Whispertone, and the 62 was just Whispertone 90. Thanks for the info!!!

No problem Hans, I have many more newspaper scans and I may have to go to the SLU library and do some research on the 60-62 series.
