Yes, interesting how the copy kept the actual mfg and model names out of the discussion. I guess that's so someone doesn't find the same thing for 1/2 the price. $200 for a stick vac? I don't think so...

Anyway, as you can tell, I'm not too impressed with stick vacs, esp the cordless variety that doubles as a dust buster. They all seem to suffer from the same ailment: baglessness. Add to that, minuscule capacity and a hard to empty dust cup, as well as a filter that generally rips after a few uses, and you have something that was too compromised on the drawing board ever to be a serious contender for cleaning. OK, so they can be handy for bread crumbs, and I got a lot of use out of my Ryobi 18 volt shop dust buster - to catch an infestation of flies that invaded the house last summer (something the cat dragged in and hid somewhere, I think).

But what about the Electrolux stick vac? Those are quite pretty. One would be a nice addition even if it sucks. LOL.

For some reason, I receive the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog and often chuckle at what gives them the right to judge any of the many products that they SELL as being the best. It's not like they are Consumer Reports that does not sell the products that they test.

But as to this vac, I have to agree with them. After a recommendation on this site from a member of this forum, I found a good deal and it is an amazing vac for this type of cleaner. Outstanding on floors and a surprisingly good surface pick up cleaner on carpet. Not a deep cleaner, but surprising for what it gets even on carpet in just a few passes. It has a setting for floor only that halts the brush and one for carpet. Seriously good for a stick vac. I do understand it is pricey but if you have a super busy kitchen or have kitty litter problems and need frequent quick pickups, this is good.

With that said, it concerns me that some outside of our world might suffice for this as their only vac. And it isn't that good.

I don't like cordless "stick vacs" either-frequent battery burnouts are common in these too-and for the cost of replacing the batteries-it ends up being cheaper to by another machine.Prefer plug in vacs instead.-and ones that use a bag.think the machine is OVERPRICED for what you get.You can get a nicer plug in broom type vacuum for that price HS is charging.Laugh at their choices.And for the Electrolux machines-they were frequent "patients" at the former Vacuum Cleaner Hospital-burned out batteries,chargers.were the common "ailments" of those.And broken handles.

Thanks for the info on the Elux stick vac.

Yeah, the price of the H/S Hoover Linx stick vac, $200, is just what I paid for the excellent Elux Ergospace canister vac. Although the Ergospace is larger and not quite so convenient, it will probably suck circles around any stick vac at any price.

I do have a Eureka Boss Super Lite corded vac. It's ok, I guess, and the brush roll can be shut off, but the cord is too short and the baglessness is a drawback as well.

I have a growing collection of dead Ryobi 18 volt battery packs (Ni-Cad). They seem to last about five years and then die. And they don't hold a charge for very long, either. I'm considering upgrading to a Li-Ion setup, but the battery packs are considerably more expensive still - $100 each vs $20 for the Ni-Cad.

I have never used one, but I am sure they are really good. BUT, I just can't see paying $200 for a rechargeable stick vacuum. I would rather just stick a floor tool on a canister and be done with it.

electrolux stick vacs

 i have an ergorapido and an ergorapido ultra+ and they are both great, granted i take care of them well. the brushroll works well, and it has suction enough to work great on bare floors and get the surface stuff, including my yellow lab's fur from carpets

The Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vac

 We had quite an accumulation of reward points on our credit card that we wanted to use up, so the Hoover Linx cordless stick vac was one of the items that we sent for. It's nicely designed, has surprising performance, and is more than a better replacement for our ailing Electrolux Pronto stick vac. It runs for about 15 minutes on a charge, without losing power as you use it! This is more than ample time to take care of traffic areas in our home, the tile floor in the kitchen and breakfast areas, and a doggy snack crumbs in the familyroom. We are quite surprised by the power and the revolving brush and it actually fluffs the nap of the wall to wall as you vacuum. It definitely out-performs the Electrolux Pronto that we had for about five years. My Mom, at 84, loves it and uses it regularly, finding it a pleasure to use. Don't misunderstand....this is a stick vac, and as Sam indicated, should not be your only vacuum! We are quite pleased with it and now also have the hand vac. The hand vac is less pleasing, but does have more than enough suction. The nozzle needs improvement for certain. I agree with HS and will continue to recommend the Hoover Linx stick vac ! The only dissappointment is that it is NOT made in North Canton by the Hoover Company that we all knew and loved!

Here are the latest top rated stick vacs by Consumer Reports (the Hoover Linx has not yet been tested):

1. Bissel Versus 76T8 (corded, not tested for carpets, excellent on bare floors and edges, very good for ease of use and emissions)
2. Black and Decker Pivot PSV1800 (cordless, excellent for carpets and bare floors and edge cleaning and emission control, good for pet hair and ease of use)
3. Hoover Flair S2200 (corded, excellent for bare floors and pet hair, very good for edge cleaning and ease of use, good for carpets and noise level, BUT POOR FOR EMISSIONS CONTROL)
4. Dirt Devil Power Stick (corded, excellent for bare floors and pet hair removal, very good for carpet and ease of use and emissions control, BUT POOR EDGE CLEANING AND NOISE LEVEL)

It's interesting that the Electrolux Ergorapido and Pronto are both rated "Poor" for carpet cleaning and edge cleaning and only "fair" even for bare floor cleaning. Both these models have been listed as recalled by Electrolux due to injury risk. They are at the bottom of the Stick Vac ratings!

Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vac

I have nothing but praise for the Hoover LiNX; a stick-vac which actually works! It was launched in the UK shortly before Christmas 2009 under the Vax brand - identical aside from the lack of a Hoover logo. Carpet-cleaning is better than any other stick-vac currently on sale here - it makes the Hoover Freejet and Electrolux Ergorapido look like children's toys! Yes, it's pricey but you get what you pay for.

I agree. When I stated above that I bought this on a club member's endorsement, it was Jack's when he reviewed it here last year.

I live with a cat so there is always litter near the box and cat hair on all floors. I am also an avid cook so my kitchen floor is always in need of a quick and thorough sweeping and this machine is terrific. It even does a surprising job for a cordless on carpets and is very good at picking up surface dirt and even raising the nap. Great also and easy to use on stairs. It is easy to charge and maintains the charge longer than avg for a cordless. I use it often and can go more than a week without charging it.

Of course, I use serious vacuum(s) for weekly deep cleaning but this works so well that I definitely recommend it to anyone that needs the convenience of a strong cordless.
