Hello all,

Can one of you possibly help me with one of my recent acquisitions from across the pond? It's a Hoover Junior Deluxe, model U2068.

I need a copy of the instruction manual as well as instructions on how to replace the dirt finder light.

Any information would be most greatly appreciated!

Deluxe Dirt Finder Light?

As far as I'm aware, the Junior Deluxe Model U2068, which was available either in a yellow/black or green/ivory colour scheme, didn't come with a headlight as original equipment. However, the similar looking earlier Hoover Starlight Junior model U2002 did do. This machine was made in either a red/ivory or blue/ivory colour scheme..so I don't know if you have some sort of hybrid Junior Deluxe/Starlight recon or if it's a Special/Exclusive that I haven't come across. I know that there were one or two of these made.

It's a while since I last stripped one down but on the Starlight, you should be able to access the bulb after removing the motor cover plate, in which case you need to lie the cleaner down flat and remove the cover plate screws and pull the cover off. It should be possible to do this without removing the lower chassis from the machine. The bulb will be a small pygmy type. IIRC, there is a little pivoting reflector shield, which moves as the handle is raised or lowered. This is because the lightbulb is fitted in the lower backbox so the direction of the beam changes with the positioning of the handle!

I don't believe I've ever had any instructions for one.

Oh and similar instructions apply if it's necessary to replace/bypass a blown up capacitor!

Stephen, you're absolutely right -- the Junior Deluxe DOESN'T have a light! When I took off the motor cover as per your directions, I found this out. So what threw me? It was the fact that the machine has a dirt finder lens at the bottom of the bag compartment door (albeit a false one) that was the culprit.

I did find some dust underneath the motor cover and around the motor, which I cleaned out...

Thank you so much for your help!

No problem!

I'm pleased that I could help you Bill; it seems as though you have the green and white Junior Deluxe as the false lens, which you describe, was black on the yellow/black version...or else you possibly have one cobbled together from various donor machines, unlikely though that is.

I've just been looking at some Youtube videos. It appears that one of the rarer Deluxe/Starlight variants, which was a kind-of brown and coffee colour and which I once saw listed on Ebay, was a Comet Exclusive..but don't know for sure.

for posting pictures of the two exclusive machines. It's possible/probable that I've seen them before but this has helped to refresh my memory, cheers!

Can't thank everyone enough for the help and the pictures ... I really appreciate everyone's efforts.

I do have the green and ivory model: got it from eBay from a seller who had bought it from an estate sale. Just got some new bags and belts for it last week: and I will be making a video of it for my YouTube channel soon (I hope).

Thanks again for everything!

Bill W.
