Hmmm. The seller is from Los Angeles. I wonder who it is. Most of his/her previous auctions are for sports bubblegum packs.

And I wonder if these are complete sets of Rexairs, or just the machines.

I'm not particularly wild about Rexairs and Rainbows but I can appreciate that there are those who are, whose tongues are probably hanging down to their kneecaps over this listing!!

Something doesn't feel right about this.......

I sent the seller of these Rainbows a message, asking if he had just machines or complete sets, and asked if I could stop by to take a look at what he's got since we are both in Los Angeles.

I received the following volley of five separate replies:

= = = = = = = = = =

your name is charles correct ?

i already saw your website you been collect most kirby and electrolux

i dont have any other brands only rexair all my rexairs is not in los angeles its 2 hours away from los angeles

i have attachment too both and machines i hope you interesting this because i have over 100 i am trying cut down i have tooo many steal alot space in my garage

what happend with Tom Gasko ? he still alive i heard his partner died from full blow AIDS ?

= = = = = = = = = =

I considered the question about Tom Gasko and his partner tasteless and insensitive in the extreme. Upon getting that message, I decided I would not answer any of these nor would I send any more.

There's clearly something amiss here.

Does anyone know who this person is?

Don't know, but it sounds dangerous

In addition to being an eBay seller, he may be one of the nice folks who goes on both forums to stir up shidoobee. Apparently a friend or former of one of the people mentioned.

My intent was to alert my dear fellow collectors about this person. He clear has some sort of 'issues' and is probably unstable.

I thought people should know the sort of messages he was sending me so they can consider whether or not it would be wise to deal with him.

I regret that you consider my doing so inappropriate.

Personally, I think you were doing us a favor, Charles. Clearly this person is someone potentially dangerous, and I'm glad you brought it to our attention here. Clearly he crossed the line with that last statement. Without naming names, did he ever identify himself as a former VCCC member? Perhaps one of the troublemakers on the old VacWeb forum (i.e. Larry Jaster)?

Thanks ... that was exactly my intention.

Granted, had I thought it out more before posting, I could have parsed the name of the person mentioned. And I should have. However, I was so shocked and offended by the comment that I didn't fully have my wits about me (what few I still have, that is).

I'm not sure who the seller is. I have gotten an email from someone who has an idea as to his identity, but since that person did not say for sure, I don't want to name any names. That's not really relevant anyway. I'd just say, stay away from this eBay seller unless you really, reeeally, reeeeeeeally need a s#!tlod of old Rexairs and don't mind overlooking some breathtaking outrageousness in getting them..........

I can't substantively comment on this without violating HIPAA, but I can add my agreement in advice to stay away from this person.

If not for the photos, I'd suspect that we or maybe Charlie in particular, considering the location, is being baited by this auction. Larry Jaster lived in Canada years ago, and his writing style did not match the repost in this thread: Larry rambled semi-coherently in endless paragraphs; he never wrote in single lines, misapplied or omitted articles, or misconjugated verbs like the person who wrote that. I suspect whoever wrote that is trying to impersonate someone with poor or non-native English grammar.

David, who is a very kind person and who, as far as I know, is fine, would be mortified by the writer of that email gossiping about him. I don't think Charles could have conveyed what happened without reposting it, and the nature of the seller indeed needs to be known among us, but please don't let this ignite rumors about David.

I seem to recall this guy from a few years back... I think he had sold some other brands of rather nice vintage machines on eBay.

A few years back, he got in touch with Tania -- and they were in contact for a while. He even visited her at one point and they went on a vacuum hunt. Rexairs and Rainbows were his main interest (he is/was a Rainbow delaer) and wanted to have the most complete and pristine collection of Rainbows there ever was, and he did have a pretty extensive collection of them. I talked to Tania this afternoon to make sure my information was correct before I came here and posted it. Last she knew, he was in San Diego. Why his auction is in LA, and the items are 2 hours away -- **shrug**.

He does have a hearing impairment of some kind, and anytime he would call to talk [to Tania], it was through TTY Relay. I think that may be the disconnect in his writing style/ability. I definitely know that it's not Larry Jaster.

Where he got his information -- or lack thereof -- about David, is beyond me.

I have talked to the dead... he is still very much alive.

This morning hearing about this whole saga, I decided to call and talk to both of them. David told me that when he was told this that he had died, that he laughed his ass off, he thought it was extremely funny. David has a great sense of humor even with all of his horrible serious health issues. He and I both have similar health issues so we do swap stories now and then, compare medical medications that we both take that are the same. It is really nice to have someone that is a good friend that is willing to listen/council to each other about our serious health issues. I thought you all would like to know.

I am not a s***t starter by any means. I like both groups because I am here for one reason, I love vacuum cleaners and vacuum collecting and vacuuming the floors. I feel belonging to more than one group is very helpful for information that you need or that you are willing to give help to others.

Oh, one of our local TV stations in their morning show were talking about how you clean your home, giving a order list of how and what you should do next while cleaning your home. The last thing they said was vacuuming except they spelled vacuum, vaccuum.
