I recently acquired a Hoover Concept I and the cord winder is shot, it will only retract about two three inches before stopping. Anybody have any advice on how to repair a cord winder?

By the way, this is my first Concept. They are a challenge to take apart and get to the fan. Not as easy as the Eureka F&G or Hoover Convertibles.

I have heard on the this forum that cord winder repair can be dangerous because of tension from the springs.

Attachment converter

Just wanted to add,

If anybody has the attachment converter? The man gave me attachments for the Elite instead of the Concept, just let me know. I am also looking for a Hoover Convertible converter as well.

Thanks,
Kenny

-- Haven't had any luck on Ebay, and I know the converter is hard to find.

Attachments for the Concept line shouldn't be THAT hard to come by. They were produced from 1978-1992 just like the Concept machines. I'll keep an eye out for a set for you. Personally, if the cord itself works with no problems, I don't think it would be worth the hassle to disassemble the machine.

Cord Winder

Actually, I used some Command cord hooks so that I could wrap the cord. The vacuum is such a beast. I modified the Elite attachments to work, they just snap in the rug plate. I may go back to the same guy I purchased this one from and get another, he had several. It’s a great vacuum but it is loud.

The metal brush roll had some rust from siting on a concrete floor in his detached garage. I read on another forum, that the brush strips were no longer available for this model. That's a shame.

The business end of a Concept I.........

We have a Concept One just like that at my Uncle's Cabin except it's not a Concept One Powerdrive.
