Does anybody know when Kirby changed the handle fork tube from smooth to ribbed? I have a 516 that has the smooth tube, and a 519 that is ribbed, so my guess is it is somewhere in between.

Also, is the attached picture of the gray cord with red plugs an original? I haven't seen this style of plug before, only the brown one in the second photo. My guess is Kirby changed the style of the plug at some point.

Hello Tom,

Both of those cords are Genuine Kirby OEM cords.

I believe the 'ribbing' on the handle tube came to be used starting on the Kirby 518 model.

Cheers & hagd/holiday wknd all,

Bill

Thanks Bill ! That's good to hear. At least I now have a genuine cord for my 519. It's in good shape with no cracks. I picked up this cord with a 516 machine on ebay recently.
